Tell me this then -

1. What have we with Kemp?
2. What have we with Stocker?
3. Will Dow and O'Brien develop?
4. Will SPS & Fisher find their best positions?
5. Is McGovern a goer?
6. Will CCurnow return as we want him to?
7. How are we going to best utilise Williams?
8. Will Marchbank continue to have issues?

One could go on, but there are many things we don't yet know about our premium drafted/recruited players?
To pretend to have the answers though.....is only pretending. We have lots to play out yet before we can become truly grounded.

So many loose ends right now. Not the time to pull the trigger.

1.Gun
2.Good user/Skills hopefully head on straight
3.Next year make or break
4.Yes.Sps midfield.Fisher fwd/mid
5.Bust
6.Yes
7.MidfieldONLY
8.Hooefully not

1. A player who, if he pans out, will be in our second tier (on the rise) when our premiership window opens (i.e. similar to a Kouta in '95).
2. Hopefully someone who is solidifying a spot in the best 22 in this period.
3. I have confidence in both players. Moreso in Dow than LOB. This year was rough on both players. Wouldn't be surprised if one of them either requested a trade or was offered up as part of a trade.
4. I believe that Fisher found his best position this year and that being given that role will solidify him in the 22. He's part of the answer at small forward.
5. No but at this time I don't think it even matters anymore. If he comes good, he comes good. If he doesn't then most will have already written him off. Either way, it's up to him if he wants a spot in our 22 or not.
6. Quietly confident on this one. Didn't expect to see Docherty be the player he is. I suspect Charlie will be similar.
7. As a rotational player in the mids and halfback. I argue that he will be the piece that enables SPS to become the player we expect him to be.
8. It wont be 2021 that he's over the issues but 2022 is his year.

Great effort. Thank you, but I feel you've also highlighted our situation - We don't yet know where we stand, and until we do........

There's no absolute right nor wrong and I'm as impatient as many others but given all the circumstances, we may be best served keeping our powder dry for just one more year.

EDIT - Credit to all the posters bringing forward so many interesting ideas. Who cares for who may be right or wrong in the end. It's the ideas that count.

I agree. We got the free agent. Great work. But spending 2 first rounders on someone when we've got so much to sort yet is a bit reckless and could be highly wasteful.

This covid year was a bust for some of our youth. Give them their chance next year in a real season and hopefully injury free and then decide.

Charlie, Marchbank, Dow, Philp, Stocker, TDK, Honey...and even Setterfield, Walsh, Harry and Fisher...we just don't know where these players will be at yet. Next year could/should see huge improvement. We'll know a lot more next year, and we mightn't need to be stuck with an extra 5 year deal on huge money that we don't really need and who cost us plenty of capital.

To me, we are more like the young Geelong list of the early 2000's that just needed time. I think we can get there in Crippa's window. No need to panic.

And had we been able to continue on with our form of the first half the year -- which I believe we will be able to next year -- the question would have been "had we been able to wrangle Papley would we have made finals or even a run in finals?"

If the right players are on the market I'd much rather we fire our shot than not.

Damned if you do but damned even harder if you don't.

As long as they don't trade for the sake of trading I'll be satisfied.

Also need to remember that it wasn't the Shiel trade in isolation that has screwed Essendon. Much more damaging was the overinvestment in Smith, Stringer and Saad the year before. Shiel was the cherry on top.

Oh, and refusing to deal Daniher...

Agree.Their other issues are Hurley,Hooker,Fantasia and Daniher along with McKenna leaving.

Terry's right, we might already have the quality. I'd still go Viney if he became available to harden and smarten us up a bit, and also soak up some excess salary cap. If Paps was also possible for a reasonable trade, (because this is an area that looks pretty vacant) then do it.

That's fair. Imo,

If in ANY doubt - Hold.

If FULLY confident it's what we need - Fire.

If we’re confident our draft scouts know what they’re doing then stick to drafting top end kids and develop them properly.

It’s clear that player managers are mostly just using us so stick to drafting and free agent possibilities going forward.
