And good on you for having an opinion.

I am aware there aren't many people in the AFL who look past the stats sheet. I include the AA selectors in that who actually put CO in the AA squad this year. Didn't even make top 5 in his own club's B&F. But his stats looked good so in the squad he goes. Also didn't make the top 30+ of the coaches association votes.

If he's such a good player and Petracca, Viney and Gawn are also going particularly well why aren't Melbourne in the finals?

My bet is that the dees would be a far better team if they lost him.
You include the AA selectors who didn't put him in this year, but have previously. He's a multiple AA at 23.

I think 5th place in the B&F counts as top 5, right? Petracca, May, Viney, Langdon, Oliver, Gawn.

As for the AFLCA, well Petracca rightfully got the lions share of the votes with 78, second overall to Neale. I can't find anything more than the top 20 leaderboard for that, so I'm not sure where exactly he sits, but this is a pretty handy list:

At the end of the day, I guess I'm just trying to say that your ridiculous statement that Oliver is "one of the worst footballers in the league" is so outrageous that it's surely in the realms of hyperbole, whether you realise it or not.

Not if your measure is the amount of damage that he does to his own team.

Wtf is the obsession with Narkle, he is a bog average player. We have a handful of players either with a similar ability or better. Fisher, Cunningham, Gibbons

Yeah, I feel people are into him because they think he is a talented player finding it difficult to break into a strong Geelong midfield. Truth is he was a Pick 60 who has played 17 games in 4 seasons on their list. He does like to stand out with his hair colour to accumulate those Brownlow votes though. 0 so far and counting.

I don't like how public her issues have become, and how they've become fuel for the gossip mill.
She raised the issue publicly herself and to bring awareness I thought, but I may be mistaken. Some will be disingenuous when raising it, but moving closer to family is a practical option so I think it's mostly reasonable speculation rather than gossip. I wouldnt be surprised should Cripps hold off re-signing at least.

That's right, Monique Fontana posted about it onto her instagram and also did an interview with the Herald Sun.

Oliver's apparent unhappiness at Melbounre stems from his lower than expected finish in their best and fairest. If he got his nose out of joint because he only was rated their fifth best player this year, does that really show the correct attitude or temperament?

That makes no sense based on that result alone. I'd suggest he's had some other issues behind the scenes with certain coaches at the club, and that result just validates their falling out.

This guy ...

NO THANKS!

That’s what happen when you go to the Barber and ask him to make you look like Dutch from The Karate Kid and it comes out all wrong.

This after showing obvious dissent towards a team mate who didn’t handball to him in a game earlier this year....
His attitude & selfishness was questioned back then.

So Oliver is unhappy because of his personal standing, whereas Merrett isn't happy because of the standards his team has adopted.?
I know which player I'd sooner have if those situations are actually factual.

I understand that people look at individuals but team unity and the drive to raise standards amongst the whole, is also very important...maybe more-so.

It’s all pretty exciting imo
Sounds like we could be really in the mix and leaving know stone unturned in landing as many big fish as we can
You can throw a thousand lines into the water, don’t mean anything if the fish aren’t biting.

Hope there are some species we will throw back, regardless of how many times they take the bait

Good to hear Kemp & Cripps will be picnic-ing together over summer months. Cripps could have a huge influence. Kemp I am curious about. He was head and shoulders ahead as number 1 draft choice early days before his knee, but was also one of those kids that was so physically stronger than his peer group. Hope it translates seamlessly into senior football. The extra year on the sidelines will be a plus I feel. If it does we could be on a winner.
I'm having visions of them in the weights room together over the summer, getting all big and sweaty...

Err, I mean, yeah, huge opportunity for Kemp to learn from the best.

Excuse me, I need a cold shower...

Pretty easy in these situations to craft a narrative to suit an opinion.

I have no info on either Oliver or Merrett - but if someone circulates the stories that Oliver lost confidence this year, doesn't have a good relationship with Goodwin, and wants to come to the Blues to stick it up Goodwin and win a premiership ... and Merrett is just moving because he wants to maximise dollars - then we start a new discussion about the merits of each ones motives and the values they might project in our team next year.

I think all these mad guesses at "motives" for players moving are rubbish. Better to focus on their skillset and what they offer to us in terms of midfield mix and balance.

You can call it an opinion if you want, but for me it's simply a personal preference....and the two are not the same.
i.e. I'd sooner have team-first players than those that largely play for themselves.

The difference between Viney and Oliver are seemingly huge on the field, but one adds more of the little things that aren't tacked onto the stats sheet.
If all things were equal, I know which player I'd sooner have......and in the case of Merrett vs Oliver, the visual isn't too different in terms of their standing.

Any Carlton supporter's doubts about Patty Cripps commitment to our club in the future should have a look at this short video which was posted on our website this morning....

Big crippa isnt going anywhere! You can hear it in his voice and see it in his face how much he loves the club and the excitement for next year
