Correct!

Restricted Free Agents risks that their current clubs can choose to match the offer and hence get re-signed on the terms of the offer. If a trade does not eventuate, they would be contracted to their current club.

Alternatively, they can simply opt not to exercise their right for FA and simply request a trade. If a trade does not eventuate, he goes to either the ND or PSD.
Sorry but this is incorrect.

The FA rules state:
Restricted free agents have the right to move to a club of their choice, subject to the current club’s right of first refusal over their services. That is, if the current club can ‘match’ the offer from a suitor club, the player must stay or enter the draft.

I realise that Caldwell is one of this boards favourites but Steele was amongst the top mids in the comp this season while Caldwell was in & out of his side - he's obviously got room for improvement but this is a big call.
Steele has been in the system a fair while now. 6 years? Caldwell is just getting going.

Hang on. So the bloke who spent a shed load of money to bring across a third tall says that it's all the players fault and we just accept that as gospel. I mean, it could be wholly or partly true but you have to at least acknowledge that its a narrative that suits an out of work recruiter looking for a new job.
Doubt he gets a club job any time soon. Maybe in the media.

Think the Crouch train is already at Richmond station

Did a quick google search and they do have $1.4M available for 2020 and 2021 after Rance’s retirement after a settlement was paid out.

Didn’t we own them for a while back in the 70/80?

Anyway, I think the AFL should move them to Launceston and use them as the base for a new Tasmanian side. I think the proximity to Melbourne can make it work. TTline/Toll as the sponsor. Allows them to survive. They keep their identity as the Tassie Kangaroos ala Fitzroy/Brisbane Lions. Moves a team from Melbourne cluster.
I just love the irony of having a team named North, moved to the southern most part of Australia.

He was but that's the lesser point.
Caldwell has shown close to nothing, yet it's been stated that he'll be as good if not better than one of the best mids in the comp.
How's it the lesser point? You literally said he's in and out of the team at GWS exactly like Steele was, who showed a lot less at GWS than Caldwell has. So why couldn't he go to another team and do what Steele has done?

Agree with Brad Crouch. As a free agent it is a no brainer (in a football sense - character would need to be ticked off by Teague). He is more than just an accumulator like his brother.

We have been looking at Wines and Oliver, I don’t think Crouch is that far behind as a player to those two. If we can get him for free (free agent) we would be laughing.

It's the lesser point because it isn't guaranteed that every young mid will become topshelf with further opportunity.
Steele is a gun, while Caldwell might be - it's a long bow to draw to suggest that Caldwells baseline is what Steele is now.

Heard last week he's basically done to Richmond, time will tell I guess. Imagine the two grand finalists going into Saturday having probably the two biggest free agency signings nominating them. A lot of people are going to be unhappy.

It's going to be so special that just when we might realistically get into a position where we are in or around the top 4 teams in the comp for an extended period the AFL will pull the Free Agency rug out (or at least substantially amend it) so we don't get the same benefit of a Geelong or Richmond. Just like Father/Son. Just like makey-uppy priority picks.

Agree SOS overpaid for McGovern and it's annoying he has 3 more years on big dollars. McGovern was out of shape and unfit last year and spent a few weeks one-on-one with Russell getting himself up to AFL standard. That is 100% on McGovern, we can't blame SOS for that. This year his output was minimal and I'd be surprised if he finishes in the top 20 in the B&F.

I've always loved SOS and what he is saying may have some truth to it. But it also reeks of self interest/bitterness and across McGovern, O'Brien, Cuningham and others he has more than a few potential skeletons in the closet.

I'm kind of glad he's done it though - draws a line under the rebuild and lets everyone move forward. It's all on Teague, Lloyd and Liddle now, no excuses
