I thought we could use the ND and take Saad with #7 if we wanted to, is that right? If so, why would Dodo even bother asking for more than #7. This bush league crap man....

I heard from someone who knows Caldwell that his preference is to stay. Doesn’t mean he doesn’t get pushed out.

Austin can handle himself.
Lead player in the Keith and Bruce trades last year. Read up on how they went down.

*important to judge the trade on Bruce’s value before the trade last year, not at the end on this season.

It’s early days, but I’m very impressed with Austin so far. Seems to be making smart calls and hasn’t played his hand too early.

A quote from Dodo after the Shiel trade went through:

He is clearly an old school-type negotiator. He thinks it is smart to ask for 2 x first round picks. But in reality he just looks like a dick and it increases the odds we walk Saad through the draft Luke Ball style.

I keep going back to what Liddle said a few months back -

A quick, run & carry back-man.............Saad.
An inside/outside mid.........................Williams.
A damaging small forward...................Higgins. Reckon we'll hear more abut him when Richmonds season is done, unless he has health issues.

For me this makes for the perfect outcome given what we have to give up.
Next year it's Merrett as a FA and our 2021 first and maybe even the 2022 first, for the most required player to complete us.

It's all so easy.

If we end up with those three, I would give Austin close to full marks. 10/10 if we facilitate Saad transfer via the PSD. Higgins is the missing piece for me. Plenty of upside with the small robust forward attributes we are looking for. I would rather hand pick 7 back to the AFL than hand it to Essendon for Saad.
We can even trade pick 7 for next year's draft. Merrett will be uncontracted next year.

I think their writing style is a little different, but you never know.

Makes me feel even more confident the club is in safe hands with Austin passing on JDG and not getting sucked into his hype/potential.

Williams & Saad are not just big names, but seem like guys who fit US specifically very well for what we need and the style of play we want for 2021. Both are competitors which is something Teague constantly mentions in his pressers, wanting players that compete and prepare well. JDG does not fit that description.

I’ll put it on record that I believe it’s a wasted opportunity.....
