As per the Bluemour File OP, this is a thread for discussing Carlton related rumours.
http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/bluemour-file.1085141/

Rumour posters should post their rumours in both threads for those that like just to read rumours and for those that like to have get lost in their rumour files.

Ther was a scientific study done years ago where participants where asked if they would accept $30 dollars offered from a unknown person in separate room who would keep $70 dollars out of $100 but if they refused no one received any the majority chose nothing as it wasn’t fair it’s not logical to give up free money
But that’s how I feel with Essendope if it isn’t fair walk away and 7 isn’t fair in my eyes no matter what SOS says
I think you might be referring to the Nash Equilibrium and in particular the the prisoners dilemma thought experiment where in a two party negotiation scenario, if both parties aren’t able to discern each other’s position, then both parties are likely to chose self interest over cooperation even if the end result means both parties are worst off.

In this scenario both parties would be better off if they cooperated, but as they don’t know if the other party will also choose to cooperate they then choose self interest, I.e get something rather than risk getting nothing even if that means foregoing a better outcome, I.e both parties get more than they would choosing self interest alone.

McGrath absolutely played midfield as a junior. He averaged as many touches as Walsh in his final season of TAC too. Have a look at his grand final performance for instance, was absolutely incredible and looked like he would 100% be an AFL mid.
The surprising thing about him is his pace hasn’t been as big of a weapon at AFL level as it was expected to be and that is probably the difference between him being a star rather then just a very good player.
Why are we talking about McGrath ffs? He was gifted to * by the AFL as a direct consequence of their ASADA doping bans. As long as he plays for that club he is a constant reminder of the drug cheating and the biased, makey-uppey AFL

(sorry, I just can't let it go - carry on)

Interestingly the Frawley/Buddy example you quote actually strengthens the weak club and weakens the better club which is what the AFL is actually trying to do.

The problem for me though is that the Swans got Buddy for free after winning the flag which is, for me anyway, the weakness in the FA system. Most FA's have gone to the stronger clubs for nothing which is doing zero to even up the competition. And this is what will happen more if they remove compensation.

No idea what the answer is but I cannot see how FA will ever be fair to all clubs.

Perhaps we could do away completely with the RFA and reduce FA by a year?

Would make clubs trade for a fairer outcome but It's pretty obvious that the Players Assoc. would reject this out of hand.

The most surefire way to get rid of FA compo, is for the Carlton Football Club to lose a player and stand to benefit. Reform would be swift and inevitable.

Never thought Id see an articulate post about game theory in the Bluemour thread. Very nice.

A beautiful mind.

They might just believe they can keep him on the park, similar to McCarthy

The warmer weather does help with soft tissue injuries, not sure it does with groins
I’m of the belief that it was a great move for Brisbane and I suspect Daniher will play a lot of really good footy for them and make them a much more potent side in attack with both Cameron and Daniher, it also takes a lot of heat off Hipwood who let’s be honest is not much of a contested mark but freed up will be dangerous.

What a movie!

This is a little left of centre but I think this week has been good for us in more than the obvious ways.

The Oliver option should still be in play. For that to happen, I think what we spend on the Saad trade might prove irrelevant.

Why? Collingwood.

They have a salary cap crisis and it may prove our salvation. Oliver is a Hail Mary pass for us, but becomes doable only if Melbourne thinks it gets adequate compensation. We and Collingwood can make this happen.

If something like this happens it will likely have to go deep into the trade period and may be a last gasp effort if no one comes for Treloar, but I think its possible. We have to wait until Collingwood is desperate.

Here's how:

Treloar is close to adequate compensation for Oliver. Melbourne may be dissatisfied due to his age but it can accommodate his wage as it carries Oliver (who would likely be on similar). Melbourne needs a winger too. What about Phillips? Or Stephenson as a scoring option?

Collingwood's salary cap is bad and they need to clear out funds. This can happen if Treloar and Phillips/Stephenson go to Melbourne. Melbourne send Oliver to us, content with a two-for-one deal. We then send what picks we have left to Collingwood (next years first and this years second probably). Melbourne may contribute a second to Collingwood too.

The Pies get screwed but their main interest here is cap space. They are still carrying Beams as well. They don't want players, they need to clear space and will have to take picks. I absolutely think something like this is possible. It may have been the thinking behind the Oliver play all along.

Yeah, looks like we want anyone and everyone but don’t wanna let anybody go !!

Spot on.

Only way most teams create draft capital for trades is trading away some of your own players who have some value.

Except we have this set of fans that think some overrated (on this board) young players should never be spoken of as pieces to trades to bring in better or more consistent players.

We are gonna be damned exciting. Both Zac and Adam are great tacklers too. Turnover, play on, run and carry, deep to Harry and Charlie! In the centre, Cripps and Setters win the footy, quick hands to Walsh and Williams, deep to Harry and Charlie!

Doc and Saad will rip opposition zones to pieces with both loving to overlap run, they will 1-2 there way through the centre square while the opposition are still setting up for the kick out, Doc and Simmo in ‘17 were damaging enough but these 2 will take it to another level while also working off each other to make sure there is always a spare in defence, and if we push Williams back there at times forget about it no team will be able to lock it in. Expect Doc and Saad to be vying for AA next year just like Doc and Simmo in ‘17.

I feel like if GWS don't match Geelong for Cameron then that will open more doors for us. It could give us Geelong, Doggies and GWS to deal with for pick swaps. Either look to split 8 or wait for * to get a second rounder from Port for Fantasia the get that pick in the Saad deal and then trade out that pick plus our second rounder for a first rounder.

I think this would work!
Having said that it doesn’t mean we need to pay a top 10 pick for Saad, even with something coming back. Sorry but I’m adamant.
I want us to keep building through the draft and not treat our top picks as lottery.
