Im keen to have an extra 1st round pick for next yr draft there saying could be a super draft
No interest in this yrs draft

We won't be going to the draft next year if all goes well. I say we throw the kitchen sink at Essendon for Merrett. Give em two first rounders which will both turn out to be around the pick 10 mark. He's a deadly player and would fit well in the structure we've got right now.

Slightly OT. But I really hope we are leaving at least one list spot open next year. With three goes at a mid-season draft (after round 4, 8 and 12) there is going to be a couple of real diamonds that missed out on playing their U18 year who are dominating state-level footy.
Good point!

No way they will let him go this yr

Merrett already said he's staying with the scum for one more year and then will re-assess his options in 2021 when he's a free agent
He'd be my main target in 12 months time.

Cant see Dunkley is worth 6 & 7 - that's massive. I'd say * will split one of them with Geelong (Like we were going to do) and give them the other and 1 late first rounder.

I agree it's well overs but that's what it will take to get him out of the Dogs who still has 2 years to run on a deal. They may get a 2nd rounder back.

Looked good early, then got found out a bit and hasn't managed to reproduce his first-year form.
Sorry, but I don't think he's worth that much, Mrs Stephenson...

We could probably get him for our 2nd rounder but seeing he's contracted might need to through in something else like our 4th. Who do we spend pick 19 on?

Id rather 2 first round picks in a superdraft

The draft is like a lottery and nothing is guaranteed (look at 2017 when we got Dow and O'Brien who were both top 10 picks). With Merrett we are 100% certain he would be a walk up start in our best 22 and place top 5 in our B&F probably too.

Yes true

Is a confidence player. Played a lot of footy as an on baller as a junior. Sometimes confidence players just need to be around the ball more to get their hands on the footy. We could using him slightly different than the pies ... could be a weapon if he gets his confidence. Has something we lack ... pace!

Interesting discussion this morning, looks like our team mightn't have done their due diligence on the Saad trade and gamed out what it looks like for the Bombers.

Sounds like they have no currency available to come back to us with wanting to use lower picks for NGA players, Caldwell etc.

Our only option for Saad is Pick 8 or that we split the picks and aggravate Dodoro.

I'm happy with the latter.

Essendon have plenty of options for matching later bids on NGA players.

If they're active, it's not going to be hard for them to secure some extra late picks as steak knives given it seems very few clubs are going to be drafting past the third round.

They can also simply carry a points deficit into 2021 in whatever round the bids come. Doubt they'd be fussed about a 6 pick downgrade on a future second or third if that's what it required.

And with live trading, they can trade future picks for extra picks this year on the night based on where the bids fall.

If the barrier in the Saad deal is Essendon not having enough third or fourth round picks, that's not our problem at all.

The choice facing Dodo now is to get active and creative himself if he really wants Pick 8, or watch that pick disappear and then have to settle for less.

I know its apples and oranges but i love Barrett's Sliding doors ..

IF ...
the Power's pick 29 isn't enough to appease Essendon for Orazio Fantasia ...

THEN ...
I wouldn't be offering anything greater. As gifted as he with talent, he's just not worth it.

So ... we need to cough up 8 for an OOC Saad who will be 27 next year.

Pick 29 for a 1 year still to go on contract 25 yo.

Haha, it’s understood just fine. Whilst it might remain the 18th active pick, whoever takes it will be getting to 20th(ish) best player in the talent pool.
If there were 80 NGA players then pick 1 on draft night would be pretty useless wouldn’t it.

No, you say that like there's an objective ranking of players.
Pick 1 isn't necessarily the best player, it just gives the club that holds it first choice.
Academy picks do not alter the number of your choice. If an academy player is bid on before or after your pick, it doesn't alter their quality in any way, or the quality of the player that you choose.

I agree. We lack pace and small forward depth. I don't think being in the hubs helped the young kid either. He has a bright future and pick 30 may be able to get him to us.

Dilutes the draft though for the rest of the teams that have access to shit corridor acadamy's.

so you’re of the belief that father sons & NGA selections have no bearing on the value of draft picks?

Going by trade logic - contracted for 2 years - minimum 1 top 10 pick for a Dunkley would be the start of negotiations. * will need to pay through the nose to get this done.

People keep asking about Oliver. It won't make the press unless it becomes likely to occur. It is not likely to occur unless things go our way. If this happens, it will be late in the piece, when clubs get desperate.

Best chance of this (I have posted previously) is Treloar being shipped to Melbourne with a sweetener (say, Tom Phillips). Melbourne can afford to let Oliver go to us (Collingwood need the cap room and can't take him). Melbourne gets Oliver replacement and a wingman. This means we only have to satisfy Collingwood with picks. That will come from what we have left for this year and next year in the first and second round.

Say, we swap 8 for 18 & 19, use 18 for Saad, send 19 and next year's first to Collingwood (maybe next year's second too) and Melbourne throw in next year's third rounder for Phillips. Pies get cap (a) cap room and (b) points for Daicos next year.

Still think this is all doable. Everyone has something to gain from it.
