Well.i wasn't there so I can't 100% say. But I guess once u piss a person off to the point they make up their mind they are going to leave and spend most likely the last 6 months at the club seeking and organising trades then I guess once u commit its pretty hard to be turned around even if the reason u are going has been sacked.
But I take yr point. I'm still not comfortable with Voss.

Maybe there was more to it ...

But while Michael Voss has been blamed, Docherty, Yeo and Polec had strong relationships with the sacked coach.

The state of the development program and off-field support for young players are all critical failings that have seen players want to leave.

Supporters want a formal selection process.
Club appoints 3 qualified members of the selection comitee including the best ceo in the league
Supporters bag the outcome.
Here is a thought for you. When there was no process. Supporters were ecstatic with the outcome and built a train to celebrate....Train went nowhere

We have not heard anything from the club about what we have done to try to secure Clarkson. We may have asked initially and been told no, he wants a holiday. We may have asked after we secured Cook, just in case anything had changed. The club haven't told us about any approaches. It is all media driven.

All we do know is that we have a panel and have been interviewing coaches. That's it.

Any embarrassment or feelings of being caught with our pants down is purely down to what people choose to believe.
Yes I agree with you, which is why I said it. All media beat up. Carlton process is disarray, a shambles etc.

‘ Now we’ve put all our eggs in the clucko basket we look like fools’

yet Carlton FC have not said anything… at all.

Sheesh look at Leigh Matthew’s 180 once we hired Cook. The media speculators know as much, it seems, as we do.

The media speculators get their news from here. Tom Browne is well known for trolling the BF boards looking for an exclusive story To break.

Regarding Voss I still can't believe what he did to Bradshaw the minute he became coach. He lost a lot of players trying to trade his ex team mates out.
For me it takes a certain kind of ruthless prick to do what he did and I keep getting reminded through life about leopards and spots. Maybe he has changed. Maybe not. But going by what he did when he was a senior coach its no wonder he's never been chosen as a senior coach again.
If Carlton pick him and all of a sudden in a year or two players want out, I won't be at all surprised. Hope I'm wrong but choosing him is fraught with danger.
People say Ross Lyon won't get picked because of a few off field issues. But he always had the players respect him. Voss has a massive ego and in the cut n thrust of things when the pressure is on I wont be surprised if he gives a few Pagan Esk sprays that won't go down well.
I'd rather go down another path of Yze, Caracella or Kingsley if Ross is definitely out.

What did he do to Bradshaw.

LM has become somewhat more independent since that time. Besides, he was young coach with a very mature team at that time.

and the boards approval to pursue a renewal and top up strategy

Just like Chris Scott isn’t pursuing the same veterans and top ups strategy on his own

that’s a whole club decision to try to make finals, stay relevant and top up. Just as it is to go full blow it up and rebuild.

Voss might not have even wanted that approach

Makes the most sense. Given that Cook started post the interviews, he will need to reset the process somewhat before approving.

The timing of the appointment and the interviews is truely bizare

Cook doesn’t need to approve

the board hires. And the board fires

they may not even ask him. Hire/fire is one of the most important board roles in a properly governed organisation. They decide

nothing worse for a board when you’ve run a big process and don’t have the candidates you like. That’s why the design (and timing) of the process is so important it should enhance the field and give confidence to the candidates.

you’ll how well it’s all gone by who it ends up with.

If I were you I’d be hoping the board are more savvy that it sometimes looks to the outsiders, and they come back to shore with a Lyon

the arguments against Lyon make as much sense as the arguments against Blight being hired by Adelaide at the end of 1996

doesn’t know how to win grand finals, premierships, and other gurning nonsense

cross your fingers for Lyon

Shopped him around to make room in the salary cap. Of course he didn't do this alone as he wasn't the list manager.

A) I'm not convinced Voss is the right man but will be very happy to be proven wrong, and B) I don't think too many coaches have final say in list decisions* (although of course they have a seat at the table), but isn't this the exact sort of thing we want from a coach - removing the sentiment to allow the tough calls to be made?

*one of Ross Lyon's old LMs wasn't particularly complimentary about him in this regard

The scribes all say that Voss has done a lot of leadership work over the years and is known as a relationship builder at Port now.

His Brisbane tenure seems further and further away.

As one who only drops in here occasionally surely we are our worst enemy with all this gossip and rumour. If you take a step back, Clarkson came out and said he was taking a year off. We want him so keep a flame flickering. We hear about posters who know but in truth there are only a few involved who truly do and largely they aren’t on here.

Take a deep breath and enjoy this for what it is. When it is finally announced embrace it regardless of who it is. Hardwick, Clarkson and Beveridge were all rookie coaches when they took over and became premiership coaches. There are no silver bullets in life or sport.

The criticism on here for people like Tom Browne etc is laughable. If half you weren’t trolling his social media accounts all day you wouldn’t have to worry about it.

Just let it unfold, it will be announced soon enough and then hopefully we have many years of that coach creating a sustained platform for success.

I have a busy day ahead pulling my hair out. I'm getting in early and then out - can't wait to read 100 pages of the apocalypse tonight.

First up - they are already people turning on Cook - if Voss is appointed - this occurred overnight - its going to get uglier than an anti-vax rally

And second - I'm glad we're talking about vintage bikes again. I had this one made by these guys (below). They're in Northcote - absolute bike nuts. It was my work bike. Now that I work at home with biggie footy, I ride it around the lounge while never watching 360 or FC. See yas.

If it is decided already that it is Voss I can't see how Cook has had to much involvement. If it gets decided later in the week or next week I'll feel more content. You'd want Cook to be talking to the main candidates himself and not going off meeting minutes.
