i wanted boyd, but very happy with bobby. he's definitely a 'put an arm around you' sorta captain, rather than a boydy who's 'i'll glare angrily at you' captain.

this should compliment the coach's approach, who seems like a scary hard arse.

So now we have a 2 Bob captain:)
But you're not saying cheap as chips I hope ;)

Bob will be a great captain, he has sincere love for the club and the game and will have no trouble communicating with his teammates and setting a shining example.

Can't wait to see him back on 360 next year.

Captain Obvious here endorses the obvious choice for captain. However, it's still the best option, and hopefully someone steps forward who will be able to take over when the time comes. All the best Bob.

Congrats Bob
Agree he is the man for now.
Also love that the club has not stuffed around. They said they'd make a quick call and they have.
Its important in rebuilding some of the credibility that we lost

Sorry to intrude. Congrats to Bob. Got a lot of respect for the way he goes about his footy, attitude and commitment. All the best to him!

As long as he wants the gig im stoked. Would have the full respect of the group, rep us well and has more class and loyalty than you can poke a stick at. Good call. Also one of our best players. Play him forward I say. Leading up at the ball and generating play is very captain like.

Murphy said he had always counted himself as a leader at the Dogs, but had never properly considered what it would mean to be captain of the club he loved.

"It's (the captaincy) never been a burning ambition for me, but with the last couple of months, with Griff walking away, I almost felt compelled to step forward and I haven't doubted that instinct for a second since," Murphy said on Friday.

"I'm really proud. This has been my football club for half my life – it means everything to me.

"I've played under some great captains in our club's history and to be part of that lineage is something really special."

Newly appointed coach Luke Beveridge says he's put no covenants on Murphy's elevation into the captaincy, dismissing questions that it was a stopgap appointment.

"The qualities inherent in Murph, he'll be the leader who comes to us and says (who) is ready to take the mantle," Beveridge said.

"And if that's next year or in two years or for however long Murphy plays AFL footy, then that's the kind of person he is and that's why he's been voted in by the whole of the football club as our captain."

Beveridge also said there was "some water to go under the bridge" before the club elected its leadership group for 2015.

"We need to make sure we implement the right approach," he said.

"We're going to take [that decision] off the shelf and you're never going to get it 100 per cent right, but we need to get it as close to 100 per cent as we can.

"Murph will play a really important part in that role."

Veteran midfielder Matthew Boyd served as captain for three seasons from 2011, while Griffen took the reins at the start of 2014.

With a young list in tow, Murphy was the "unanimous" choice to lead the Dogs next season, according to Beveridge.

Great choice for the times. Not aware of the machinations that lead to Ryan Griffen last year but suspect (not for the obvious reasons) that Bob should have been selected/stepped forward then but the mindset around the club was pushing too hard. Congratulations Bob, go for it!

Murph's father was a priest and his mother was a nun, so I guess I don't have to light any more candles at church for the team. He's got that angle covered now.

Excellent choice.:D

Absolutely outstanding presser. One of the best I've seen from the club in years. Bobs a master of the media and you can see the process of putting in the new Bevo structure is taking place.

I recommend it strongly

The Captain and Coach have just opened a grog shop
