It is all opinion. Ok maybe not well past, but I think there is a gap appearing with what they will likely offer in the future. Nothing against Beams at all, it's just that Sidebottom is really showing signs that he will be an elite midfielder. He is still very small, and has a few years to bulk up in the gym. (as Beams will do too)

I love them both. But if Sidebottom wanted a trade or was up for trade, two top ten picks could quite possibly be demanded.

Silly to keep comparing them though, as both are equally loved by the magpie army.

The fact that I highly rate Beams as does everyone else, but that I rate Sidebottom noticably more, is completely reflective of where Sidebottom is at.

The NM game he was right up there. I just think Sidey hurts more with the ball. It's jsut they way he moves, his style, etc... He will be something special.

I think Sidebottom's last month has meant he has gone well past Beams who we all know is no slouch.

He reads the ball beautifully, ahs an awesome football brain, and moves like Pendles, only runs and carries alot more, and finishes with elite disposals. He is lethal around goals.

Early days, but I tend to agree with Nardz.

The Bomber supporter throwing around first round draft picks that were successful, misses the equally valid point of first round draft picks that were duds.

Sidebottom could well fetch two top ten picks, but I am so attached to the guy, I don't want to see it happen. And it won't. He will stay at Colingwood.

Steele Does have a Higher Celing then Beams but at the Moment I think Beams is ahead

There is absolutely no way Sidebottom would be worth two top 10 draft picks. You said yourself he is worth more then pick 11 but two top 10- no way. Two top ten draft picks would go to player like Ablett, Judd etc. What you are saying is effectively someone like Hurley + Melksham is what Sidebottom is worth.

At best you would say either a top 10 draft pick + fringe player or a 1st round (20ish due to GC) and a good player (as you said- although we seem to disagree on a definition of a good player) like Welsh or Monfries. Let me flip the scenario, lets say Hurley was being traded (pick 5)- would you be willing to give up Sidebottom + a top 10 (most likely top 5) pick for him?

I would consider a straight swap Hurley for Sidebottom. Which in reality is not going to further either club much so why bother. One step forward one back.

Its hard to see any value in trading players for draft picks given the GC situation, its a tainted draft. So I am not really that worried about Dons or Tigers taking him, but am super worried GC will. Lets face it if he wants the cash he will go, if wants to play in a successful side in the near future he will stay at Collingwood.

I think its insane for the Tiger & Dons to be competing with the GC $$ as they will simply be paying players way more than they are worth, GC is inflating player prices. They need to just try & use what shitty picks they have to the best advantage. Especially the Tigers - for god sake havent they screwed themselves enough with stupid trading & over paying duds???

They should be targeting undervalued commodities who are not getting opportunity at other clubs, or discards who they feel could play a role for them and will come dirt cheap. We got Medhurst as steak knives, and he would be the captain-coach of Richmond right now.

I read the article and there was nothing in it to suggest the tigers are having a crack at him all it said was ess and richmond are going to be active during the trade period and down the page it said three young uncontracted players and rusty was one of them. There is no way Sidebottom would wanna play for a basketcase.

We need to make sure we have cap room to pay these young stars what they are worth. You cant just assume that we are going to keep them and that they would not contemplate going to a place like Richmond. Theres a lot to like about the Tiges now that they finally have a coach with a clue.

If one or two of our bigger salaried players needs to be sacrificed to keep our 20 year olds, then so be it. If that means we ask O'Bree and Presti to retire, and consider trading some of Lockyer Johnson Davis and Fraser, then so be it. Whater it takes to retain the likes of Sidebottom.
