Brothers.

Anyone else enjoy a bit of a read?

Just wondering what yourf avourite books are or who your favourite authors are?

I've just finished reading Divine Justice by David Baldacci which was the last book in The Camel Club series. Top stuff.

Well, The Power of One by Courtenay is one of the best books i've ever read
and it's pretty difficult to go past anything written by Stephen King or Dan Brown

I do enjoy any good read though

Given the time of year, have just started reading Darrel Baldock's biography.

Absolutely sensational.

How's this for a story.

Back in Devonport, Doc was 12 and was going to see his favourite player in a pre season game.

They were short of players, so Doc was put in a forward pocket.

The result - Doc slots a lazy 6 against grown men whilst being 12 yrs old.

If you enjoy a read.. then consider... the hunger games triology. Very good book (posted abt it on bigfooty book board)

Shards of Honor, Breaking Free and The Curse of Chalion were very good by Lois McMaster Bujold.

... add in Ricky Nixon's book which i got yesterday

Bloody good. Near un-put-down-able.

I am stoked i'm at home by myself tonight... I may nearly finish it today. very interesting.

Really brother?

Any highlights to share?

well i got thru aboot 3 or so chapters last night, his playing days and the beginning of flying start: and the detail in regards of the late 80s sainters is quite interesting (as to how much of a rabble we were), the belief by frawley we were closer to a flag in 91 than i thought, the odd plugger tidbit and so forth.

The writing style is a bit wanky sometimes and i don't think his ghost-writer is really that good but the actual GUTS of the goings-on is quite engaging.
I guess thats what i got it for - the behind-the-scenes stuff that actually shows the differences between say a carlton of the 80s and a saints of the 80s.
A crap part of our history, but one that is relevant nonetheless.

$25 at big W BTW :thumbsu:

My straetgy regarding reading Doc's biography has worked well. I didn't read any of it in the week off, wanting to keep some for PF week. I left some over to read in GF week as I thought it would help calm the nerves. I have 150 pages to read before Saturday. I am ready!!!!

Latest story......Doc kicked 6 goals playing with a broken arm. He managed to take one handed grabs. What a freak!!!!!!

I read a lot of non-fiction

Just finished "Apathy for the Devil" by Nick Kent
Crazy stories from 1970's rock/punk scene

And just about to finish "Dylan on Dylan" some interviews over the years of Bob....

next on the list is "Hells Angels" by Hunter S Thompson & I'll check out the Doc's biography too

Looking forward to seeing the movie version of the 2nd book (just released I believe)

I've wondered if these are any good before... not my usual thing but I am intrigued...

cheers, will check them out.

Yep, bit of a politico

the campaign trail is well worth a look for political interest

the rum diary, i shouldve said, just makes you want to drink rum under a tree. if thats your kick of course. :D

both well worth a look as well as:

The Gonzo Way. A book written by anita thompson on how to live your life more Hunter-esque.

Reading The Tongues of Serpents by Naomi Novik at the moment, fifth book in a series which appears to be rapidly going downhill. I do recommend the first one, Temeraire (also known as His Majesty's Dragon).

Just finished: The Rainmaker by John Grisham.
Again. Wouldn't re-read if it wasn't good.
Also just finished: Informed Sources – A history of the Melbourne Press Club by Keith Dunstan.
An obscure little book that I scored several copies of for free recently. Not a bad read, some great anecdotes but it does get bogged down with listing names, dates and club appointments.

To read: Les Miserables by Victor Hugo.
Sitting on my shelf taunting me. I love the musical, but have yet to get around to reading the original.
Also to read: Me & Orson Welles by Robert Kaplow.
Never really planned on it, but won a copy in a competition recently. Annoyingly said prize did not include movie tickets (Zac Efron irks me, but still). Orson was an interestingly character, so willing to give it a bash.

It was a while ago now that I read the first one, but certainly enjoyed it

I thought the 2nd one was a little slow, but that could just be me

The 3rd one hasn't let up so far, just seems to get more intriguing (and actually follows almost immediately on from the 2nd book)

Thanks for that. :thumbsu:

My brother couldn't put them down.

I put a hold on the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo at Uni and there are 6 people in front of me. :(

yeah, thanks I might get around to reading them one day... not sure if i should read it before i watch the movie though... i probably should...

anyway, just finished reading Candy by Luke Davies... bloody tough read. Brilliantly written but just a really big window into the kind of life that you wouldn't really want to know about.... i didn't know if i would be able to finish it after around the 65 page mark... when i picked it up again it was much easier to stick it out...
