yeah, thanks I might get around to reading them one day... not sure if i should read it before i watch the movie though... i probably should...

anyway, just finished reading Candy by Luke Davies... bloody tough read. Brilliantly written but just a really big window into the kind of life that you wouldn't really want to know about.... i didn't know if i would be able to finish it after around the 65 page mark... when i picked it up again it was much easier to stick it out...

Candy ... is that the one about the drug addicts? I haven't seen the movie, but remember reading the book many, many, many moons ago

Not as funny as I thought it was going to be

yep, they're heroin addicts....

there were some bits that were funny in that it really shouldn't be funny but i'm laughing kinda way but mainly it was just messed up... don't know if you'd remember the bit when they get crabs? just gross....

no, but it does remind me of another episode in my life where ... never mind

I remember them buying/stealing a stack load of Panadeine or something to make some homemade gear. And I remember the girl getting pimped. I think the author is an ex addict(?)

BTW, as I read Girl With The Dragon Tattoo well before the movie came out, not sure whether it's a must read before seeing the movie or not. Didn't seem to be many gaps in the movie, so it's not like you won't understand it (unless the sub-titles don't work ... as happened for the first 5min when I saw it in the cinema :p)

yeah, i think he must have been through something with drugs because no one on the outside knows that much about them... altho it could be total bull i guess cuz i'm certainly no expert lol

the thing is, that if i watch the movie for dragon tattoo i won't read the book unless the movie really blows me away... maybe that isn't that much of a bad thing?

that's a fair point, and in that case I'd say read the book first if you're interested

the movie is nice to see having read the book. Not sure watching the movie would drive many to reading the book (though the series is still selling v.well apparently)

i'll put them on my list then :) maybe it'll eventually sell more than twilight. that would bloody great :) poor guy didn't get any profits tho :(

yep, i liked everything about it better than the movie but the ending... he doesn't end things well imo, but the book is brilliant, you're right...

the campaign trail is well worth a look for political interest

the rum diary, i shouldve said, just makes you want to drink rum under a tree. if thats your kick of course. :D

both well worth a look as well as:

The Gonzo Way. A book written by anita thompson on how to live your life more Hunter-esque.

I've got my hunter list going ...

Reading Fast Food Nation first (an oldie I know) but pretty much putting me off fast food again.

wasn't there a courtcase actually?

anyway, have you read the harves bio? any good?

Yeah, I have a signed copy ;)

Is pretty good, isn't exactly filled with wild anecdotes of his partying ways (maybe there weren't any) but a nice read, without being astounding

i though about the same of harves' book. I value it for the lockett bit, particularly why he left which changed my perception of Plugger and for some reason the plantar fascia (spelling?) story.

I finished wayne carey's bio - very good read and highly recommended.

Until i go book hunting later on in the week i'm re-reading Bloodlust by Nick Bleszynski - the story of alexander pearce, the convict cannibal. Thoroughly enjoyed it the first time and am again.:thumbsu:

oooh, did you see van diemen's land?

good film i thought, might have to check the book out...

when i look out the door..... boom boom :D:D:D

seriously.....Unfortunately I haven't seen the flick. i keep meaning to though!
the book is interesting.. like a fact-ion sort of writing. its quite an entertaining read and as i said its great the second time round too.

hmm... out of stock on book depository and the uni library doesn't have it... but it does have another book by the same author...

i've not read any of his other books although I believe that the breaker morant one is meant to be quite interesting if not controversial due to it naming morant as a scapegoat for the governments at the time.

The book is worth a look as it sure does tell the story of an odd and somewhat disquieting episode told from the viewpoint of the actual person at the centre of it. It's listed as fiction, but it's well researched and I like the style.

.......yep, that sure was a pathetic joke :D the boom boom was there for a reason :D

just stumbled across this and thought it might be of interest:

http://www.abebooks.com/blog/index....ns-1958-cover-letter-for-a-vancouver-sun-job/

basically, i'd say it's the greatest cover letter ever lol

haha that's awesome :thumbsu:

my favourite part:

"As far as I’m concerned, it’s a damned shame that a field as potentially dynamic and vital as journalism should be overrun with dullards, bums, and hacks, hag-ridden with myopia, apathy, and complacence, and generally stuck in a bog of stagnant mediocrity. If this is what you’re trying to get The Sun away from, then I think I’d like to work for you."

it was the breaker morant one that the library had... i don't really know why i felt the need to share that lol and the joke wasn't that bad... i was more pathetic as it took me a while to get it lol
