Anyone know if these discs are available anywhere in NTSC format, rather than PAL?

The Box Set is Region Free...ie it might play on both formats.

You could always buy the set rip the DVD and convert it.

I have a player that will convert PAL to NTSC, but shrinks the screen by 40%, so hoping somehow I can find it in NTSC.

I doubt you'll find it on NTSC, best thing to do, is buy it on PAL, download a program called AnyDVD or CloneDVD (I forget which it is sorry), which will remove the region on the disc, and then you just have to re-burn it and it will be region free.

DVD Shrink would do the Trick

Strange that it would shrink so much as PAL has a higher resolution than NTSC. Maybe get another program to do it?
