Fair? It's not even close to parity.

I know plenty of hate exists on this board for Ebert, even before he asked to be traded, but the kid can play and he is a leader. Pick 28 and 33 is barely 3/4 of Ebert's value, but you get what you can out of these deals.

Obviously not, but Ebert is uncontracted and wants out but refuses to go to any club except Port. We're hardly in the box seat so if we managed to salvage pick #28 and a 12 pick upgrade from #45 to #33 then I think we'd have to happy enough.

Have never rated Lucas, he is a Matt Rosa clone, and may never be as good.

He isn't a great kick, doesn't have elite speed so not sure why you would want him on the outside. I would rather Stevens and Jetta over Lucas.

I'd agree he's not elite but more than servicable, plently to work with considering his athletic qualities and ball finding ability.

If Carlton were interseted in Stevens, we could do worse than Lucas. Would target Yarran of course but unrealistic.

That's my point max. It's what we'll have to live with, but to say it's fair, well, lets just say I don't agree with that comment.

Guys i very much doubt we will part with 28 and 33. From what im hearing over here its 33 or the highway. I'd be suprised if 28 alone got put on the table. Personally I would have offered 28 on monday and the deal could have been done on the first day.

Would've been nice...

If that offer was on the table the trade would have been done by now imho

Pick 33 alone is pretty harsh I reckon. I am going to be pissed at Port for a while if that is how it ends up. As you lot probably are with the Pies.

At that, I would be prepared to not trade him and force him to to kill 2 months of his pre-season and allow him to fret about GWS or GC picking him up in the PSD.

if ports offer isnt accepted by us and Brad blames them rather than blaming us (ie thinking their offer isnt fair) do you think there is any chance he would sign a 1 year contract and then go there next year instead? as appose to waiting for the PSD?

Brad will go regardless.

Seems like we will get nothing achieved and get screwed for pick 33 from Ebert. I have not heard of any other players we are chasing or who want to come to us and we aernt going to get overs for Stevens so... IMO it's just the Ebert deal.

I think there is more chance that Brad is having a sneaky think about the Crows. There were reports that Crows could 're-consider their position' regarding Ebert now they completed their other trades. As the trade deadline approaches I suspect the idea of going to the Crows will look much more enticing than risking Gold Coast or GWS taking him. Crows could easily sneak up and offer pick 24 and the deal will be over by the time Port realise what has happened. That is the risk that Port is taking, the longer it takes the more chance that Brad will consider the Crows and more chance Crows could come to the party. That is more risk to their position than the risk of Ebert entering PSD from WC's point of view.

He really isn't a fan of the Crows after they passed him up (I reckon if he went there he would be content rather than trying to force a move to Port).

I think he would settle for the Crows, but I doubt it would be a case of him preferring them over GC or GWS for 2 or so years.

I think he will say no to Adelaide aswell, I mean he said no to Geelong of all teams. His family tradition is PA and its footsteps he obviously wants to follow in. Im hopefull of a deal tomorrow, i heard peter rohde say they want these deals done before the weekend. Fingers crossed!

On the face of what has been reported in the media, Eberts attitude has been pretty poor. First the dummy spit after perhaps his first ever set back, then the port or nothing implication showing no respect for the eagles who have stood by him. I dont see him in eagles colours again.

I don't put much credence in what the media reports. Let's be honest, they're trying to muck rake, sell stories most of the time.

His attitude after being dropped to Peel earlier in the year was first rate. He knuckled down, did what he was asked of the coaching staff and got on with the business of playing footy. I'd be disappointed if I had been playing most of the year and missed the finals, so I don't hold that against him.

I can also understand him wanting to go to Port. His uncle is a legend there and his father played 100-150 games there.

I do agree that we won't see him in Eagles colours though.

If Pick 28 was all that Port offered, I'd then offer him to any club for the best pick(s) offered. Whilst Ebert can state his club preference, he can still be traded to any other club. There have been players who have been traded completely without their knowledge - whilst they were overseas on holidays ! Giving Port the first opportunity is purely a courtesy. Under AFL rules Ebert can be thrown out of the draft if he insists he must be traded to a specific club. Of course any club taking him would run the risk that he wouldn't play, or would be a poor performer - but he couldn't play elsewhere either. I think GWS would probably consider him a good risk at pick 85? They have a 52 player senior roster, so no great damage there. Sending him to GWS would suit me just fine ! If all else fails, send him to the PSD on the very final day for pre-PSD de-listings. Pick 28 in this draft = pick 40+ in any previous draft - so the pick itself is not a huge loss - for sending a message.

I think you have your wires crossed. If Ebert is out of contract, he can chose not to be traded to certain clubs. His contract with West Coast has expired, they have no power to say where he goes next. Its the nature of contracts, once they expire, both parties can do what they like.

No, Ebert has to agree to the trade as he's out of contract as Pav said. So sending him to the pre-season draft would be your answer if the compensation for him is deemed insufficient.

can he really still be pissed at the crows for not picking him? seriously? seems quite petulant and bitchy if thats the case

for starters, they picked a far better player,
He isn't a fan to say the least.

"Screw the crows, they didn't pick me in the draft, so now when I go back to Adelaide I want Port only."

"Screw the Eagles, they didn't pick me for the finals or the midfield, I want to go back to Adelaide and I want Port only."

...anyone see a pattern here?

I'd imagine Brad would rather stay at WCE than play for the Crows. As a Port fan there is not a whole lot worse than playing for the crows. Hate is a mild word. That said it hasn't affected Scott Thompson's abilities.

How did this Brad is leaving because he was dropped in finals story come about. I remember posting in a thread about Ebert to Port on the WCE midway through the year - surely this has been an issue well before the finals.
