I don't know if anyone noticed this yet, but surely it is time that Carlton bring back Brad Fisher into the seniors after his BOG performance against Weribee on the weekend playing for Northern Bullants.

If the selectors don't bring fisher up for this fridays match against west coast, it is honestly a joke for the guy! Seriously, its not as if players like wiggins, yarran etc.. playing in the half-forward line have set a high standard in the seniors!
id be shocked if he gets knocked back again!! he's surely earnt his spot :thumbsu:

From what i saw at the Bullants game he should be straight in for this week. He has deserved his spot and he worked hard on the lead and when we were not in Possesion and most Importantly took a heap of clean grabs and kicked really straight.

Must come in IMO.

While I agree that Fisher will get a chance this week, I find the overall tone from many posters, and the media about Fisher quite laughable.

The tone is that

it is about time they bring in Brad Fisher
and Mike Sheehans article went much farther :)o)..........like he's been a glarring omission and beating down the door for weeks, and no-one can figure out why he hasn't got a game.

The fact is Fisher was dropped from the senior side, because his marking had fallen away (possibly due to pre-season elbow injury), and his kicking was poor. Poor mark.....poor kick.....slow to chase and tackle = dropped.

Since going back tot he Ants he has been serviceable at best until this week where he did what he should do with the chance the Waite injury presents, and he dominated the forward line. Took his marks again, kicked o.k. (for Fisher).......

So he gets his chance.

Lets be clear though, if Waite wasn't injured, Fisher would be lucky to get in after 1 very good game, and a handful of o.k. ones.......he hasn't deserved his spot until now.

I hope for his sake and the sake of our side he kicks 5 goals and takes the next step as a senior player.:thumbsu:

I don't think he was dropped for kicking or marking, I think he, like Houlihan was dropped because he is slow and therefore is incapable of applying genuine defensive pressure around the ground esp up around the flanks. I noticed this last year. The game might have passed he and Houlihan by, though I expect Fish will get a chance this weekend and all the best to him because he did bag nearly 40 majors a couple years back.

He played on an undersized opponent, as soon as the switch was made, Fisher didn't kick another goal. Enough said.

Not the answer to our forward woes by any stretch of the imaginiation.

I will stick up for Fisher here.

Yes he may not be the answer to our problems up forward... But will he help?? In my opinion yes.

I was at the Game and when the switch of opponents was made Werribee identified Fisher as a threat and he hardly had a one on one battle with his opponent after the switch. Werribee had defenders floating back to help his opponent so a 1 on 1 was avoided and therefore made it harder for him to get clean hands on the ball in a contest of 3 players. I doubt very much he will be double teamed against WCoast and he will not get the best defender. I want to see him get his chance this year and the time is now right for him.

Wether he can hold his spot in the Team who knows and clearly the fringe players out there playing in the seniors at the moment are not doing much to warrant their selection every week either. Some changes need to be made and only Naivety will deny that.

My previous stance was a definite NO in regards to Fisher getting another game, but based on the poor form of Wiggins, Cloke and Russell, and the fact that we are 2-5 in the last 7 weeks i'm much more open to the idea of trying something different.

I think Fisher shouldv'e had about 2 or 3 weeks in the VFL and shouldv'e came back in straight away. Houlihan shouldn't be droped into the VFL either. With his foot skills and delivery to our forwards especiallty fev he should never of been droped even after playing one so called "Soft" game against the Hawks. I don't understand why people call him soft he is an outstanding player who is very much underated. Hopefully Grigg can come back in aswell and also one of either O'Hailpin, Hartlett or Anderson to replace Waite. Scotland will make his way back in aswell and Carrazo hopefully will be back in the week after.

My team this round would look like this:

FB: Austin Jamison Bower
HB: Grigg Thornton Scotland
M: Murphy Gibbs Simpson
HF: Houlihan Hampson Wiggins
FF: Betts Fevola Fisher
R: Kreuzer Judd Stevens
INT: Robinson Browne Hadley

Out: Armfield Joseph Yarran Russell Waite
In: Fisher Houlihan Grigg Scotland Hartlett

Thought he should have got a game when Wiggins was dropped either last week or the week before. Wiggins started well but has really dropped off. Fisher is a better makr and just as reliable (or unrelaible) as wiggins when kicking for goal. Plays the lead up forward role better than wiggins. Hopefully can come in and get his hands on the pill and kick average 1.5 goals a game like he did a few years ago.

For me, this week:

Out: Waite, Wiggins, Hadley, Armfield and there roles to be taken by:
In: Hartlett, Fisher, Scotland, Grigg

Hartlett or Austin to go with Fisher as a duo CHF. Whichever plays forward, the other to play back. Hammer and Kruez to rest in the forward line.

Spot on - I laugh how I used to defend him in my altruistic 'don't bag anyone days'. Hopefully he can find a second effort, lay a tackle, stop falling to his knees and kick half decently :(

Dude Fisher at least takes marks and when he kicks straight we have goals and the other players are trying to take Fevola. When he doesn't mark,Betts or Yarran can crumb and goal.

People say he don't chase, can't tackle but it's ok when a guy like Carazzoo ,Russell or anyone who gets the ball a thousand times but turn it over and the other team scores a goal.

Fisher and Grigg should come in and maybe Anderson and Hartlett or Houilhan while Wiggins,Armfield,Russell and Waite be drop/Injured and maybe others.

Shame we were thinking how solid our team was becoming, what little use we had for players like Fish. Now he's back as a vital in. Progress?

Have to agree with thy here. Pretty confident Fish hasn't played one's this year because as numerous other posters have noted, he is not a noted tackler and not a noted kicker which are 2 of the 3 strings the modern forward needs (the other being a good mark which he is). Understand he kicked 4 goals on the weekend but some posters noted that Werribee is a very average side, of which I have no idea so I'll take it on faith. Would expect a player with 86 games of AFL experience to kick a few in this situation. I believe his career with the Blues (don't know when his contract expires) and possibly in the AFL is at a cross roads this year and it will be interesting to see if he's on our list for much longer.

In terms of the progress of the team and who's playing regularly in the one's I'm pretty sure if Waite hadn't gone down we wouldn't be talking about Fish this week.

Maybe not, but he deserves a chance to show as he was in our best 22 until he injured himself in pre-season and still hasn't been given a run in the seniors 9 rounds in! He may not be the ultimate answer, but IMO he is much better than Wiggins who has been nothing but a passenger in his last three games.

I really rate Wiggo for heart, but he needs a spell in the VFL and to regain some of that passion and desire that saw him earn his spot at the start of the year.

The selection committee are far too slow to make changes this year. I don't think a win should mean no changes no matter what (as happened after the Pies game). If there are passengers in a winning side, they should still be dropped, especially when we have quite a few reasonable quality experienced players missing out each week.

In the same vein I think Setanta should be back in before Cloke.

If Fisher can regain the form that saw him get 40 odd goals in 2007, then great. But the fact remains that the opposition run off him way too easily which puts a LOT of pressure on our midfield and backline. Yes, Carrots and JR turn the ball over, but so do many others, include Fish - it's a part of football, and JR's and Carrot's turnover stats aren't any worse than any other players' turnover stats. JR generally disposes of it quite well and Carrots gets so much of the ball and also generally disposes of it very well, provided Carrots keeps it at the short 20 - 30 metre passes.

Basically, playing Fish (unless he regains the 2007 form) is a sign that we're not that good. However if he can kick goals like he did in 2007 then the opposition will be less likely to run off him.

Just has to come in this week. We badly need someone to take a mark inside 50, and Fisher will certainly be able to give us that. Also haven't seen him play yet with the Ants, but reading the reports, his form has been pretty good.

Looks set to along with Carlos - Poor Waitey, the screw in my left knee pulses every time I see a replay of that one:

http://www.carltonfc.com.au/season2008/newsarticle/tabid/4311/newsid/77598/default.aspx

The coach said key forward Brad Fisher was a likely inclusion, while Irishman Setanta O’hAilpin was set for an extended stint of senior football after impressing the coaching panel with his form and attitude.

“His form’s been really good and we’ve taken him away twice and to his credit … he’s come back from a travel and then been in our best two or three players for the Bullants,” Ratten said.

“So we just think his flexibility [is important] … so I think he really gets his chance now to play in the team.

“He’ll play for probably two or three weeks, we’ll put him in there and let him have a real crack at it to see how he goes.”
