Two journos at his press conference (at least one a paid Port employee)- probably says something about the lack of hype around the guy. And thank god:

“Just concentrating on defence”.

That has to be one of the least newsworthy grabs from a press conference ever- what was he expecting?

As far as I'm concerned his pass mark is not terrible

Unless he has some gold pass in his contract, a fit and firing Trent McKenzie would send him to SANFL. So he’s got his work cut out for him.

McKenzie is old, slow and usually cooked.

He only improves our side by way of structure. Not personal ability.

Bzt should keep him out the side

Did someone say (KFC)? "Todd Marshall long term contract"

McKenzie seems to be a bit of favourite on this forum but I am not a big fan and he can be had with athleticism or speed.

There is a reason we traded for two readymade Key Position Defenders in the off season.

Esava is more of a direct swap for McKenzie than Zerk-Thatcher but I will be happy to see the back of him in a Stephen Paxman kinda way.

Not sure why we would want McKenzie in the side. He’s 32, injury prone and probably onto his last year on the list. It’s time to move on.

We clearly went after BZT and Esava to be our key defensive stocks and at the age of 25 they both have a good 5-6 years left likely. Much rather put the time into those two gelling together as a defensive unit than another year on an injury prone old guy who won’t be around much longer.

We went for 2 key defenders because Jonas, Clurey and Pasini are all not good enough.

Agreed that McKenzie is not a KPD, but he can do it in a pinch and is likely a better 3rd tall when fit than BZT.

Regardless I hope we line up with a defence of:

FB Williams Ratugolea Burton
HB Houston Aliir Farrell
Int: Jones

McKenzie and BZT would be depth for Burton / Ratugolea.
