Clubs run very lean these days, and all the people hanging on and doing nothing are gone.
Best information comes from the players who attend coterie groups.
Based on that statement I can only assume Maynard went to a coterie group, perhaps tonight, and a member of that group has since told you what he said?

I’m hearing that the North offer is a fictional tale.

Mayno going nowhere-o
Happy if true.
The thing to bear in mind is agents often ask journos to do that to create some tension.
Ned’s response (which some took to heart) was simply a return of serve to the Agent.

He'll be offered an extension by the Pies. It won't be $1m a year.

It will be his choice if he wants to remain a one club player with a chance to play in finals on very good money.

Something he won't get at Norf.
I can’t agree. They look like they’re turning the corner and there is some serious talent there.

I think the $1m part is probably not far off, but I doubt they would offer him the supposed six years.

Big if (in terms of his progression), but yes unfortunately the draft gurus would miss out there. There is also the what if of bringing in Allen as a FA and how that would nullify the compensation which I didn’t consider earlier. I think we just make it simpler and he stays. Surely everyone’s happy with that?
No, I'd prefer we flip Maynard for a first rounder. I think we have surplus as the medium defender role, and think Maynard is one we could afford to let go.

I also am not yet clear on McGuane's likely draft spot yet, but even so, we could trade the first round pick we get for Maynard if we felt he'd come in before that pick. We'd also get back salary cap space to make a raid on FA market in coming years.

This happens all the time that we get rumours of a big offer about some player, we talk about their worth, run through scenarios where they’re actually not as good as we thought and claim that we’d be better off without them etc etc and then at the end of the day it was all a storm in a teacup, and the player ends up a one club player. And we’ve denigrated them for no reason.

Let’s not run rings around ourselves in March and leave the poor bloke alone who has done nothing but show good faith to the club.

They played a good game yesterday 🤣 Against a woeful Melbourne. They had to improve eventually.

And if they are on the improve, they won't need to be throwing out ridiculous contracts to attract players.

If the offer is true he’d be silly to turn it down.

Upside is that the first round compensation would amount to half a Rowell.

Would also provide the opportunity to bring some youth through I.e. Parker in the position.

Fortunately We’re well stocked on that part of the ground after the Houston acquisition.

Way less than half a Rowell. It's not likely to be a good pick for GC to trade or carry big points in this year's draft.

how does 500k a year for 10 years set you up for life.
After tax that's around 3 million.
A standard house in Melbourne costs 2 million plus.
Which leaves 1 million.
And I imagine he would have spent at least 500k over those 10 years.
That leaves 500k.
Invest that in the stock market and you would earn about 20k a year.

That's hardly set up for life.
You know Domus this has all been explained to you before but you just keep on peddling the same stuff.
A $2million asset fully paid off ( under your assumption), is nothing to sneeze at.

Sorry dude, I wasn’t serious about having a reliable source. I was trying to say they don’t really exist these days, and that unless you get info from a player, it’s probably BS.

A mate does go to a coterie group and they usually have players there. He told me last year that we would get Houston before the media broke the story that we were a real chance.

I’m confident though that the deal reported for Maynard is not accurate because the media inflate numbers to get clicks.

I can't help but think that sooner or later the uncertainty of whether Bruzzy goes or stays will affect the team's cohesion.

The longer it goes without a decision the worse it could get.

The fact that all this talk about North Melbourne's massive offer will surely unsettle some.
Whether the offer is real or not, I think it is already the elephant in the room.

Nah. It's someone or something every week every year. Just part of the AFL environment.

Yep - we don't have the generational contracts that basketball, soccer, NFL or baseball players get (not even the same planet tbh!).

In a sport as physically demanding as footy, gotta try and take all you can.

Yep. It's a great start to life but it's not "set up financially for life".
So what's your point.
Yep. And unless you sell your family home and downsize, it's increased worth doesn't give you money to live on. (Probably does if you're smarter than me financially and leverage it somehow)
