After this year Pies wont be primed for a flag over the next 6 years.

They will need to replenish the aging list sometime and somehow.
Our longest absence from preliminary finals since 2000 is five years (2013-2017). Have we not replenished our list at all in that period? In that time we’ve managed out cores of Buckley, Licuria, Burns, Clement, Rocca and Tarrant and then Cloke, Swan, Shaw, Beams, Thomas, Didak et al and still generally found a way to be around the mark again quicker than the timeframe you’re now suggesting we’ll have to suffer through.

Why aint we a contender in 2026 or 2027? If we replace Pendlebury, Howe and Cox with 3 quality free agents or trades at the end of the year would that help? We have generally added about this number every year since Flys appointment. Could our current draft picks step up? Are we even a contender this year?

North supporters would have to be one of the more delusional supporter bases there is.

In what sense, please elaborate. Not saying I disagree, but why?

4x $850k should be more than enough, if he doesn't come for that? He can happily stay with a big club in no man's land... all those fans will become a burden at some point - big clubs are good for atmosphere but that's it. I am a long time supporter of a big Club in my homeland, we always sell-out. 86,000. No away fans permitted except for continental cup competitions.

It's awesome when we're winning, turns toxic pretty quickly when we're not.

Maybe they will.

But teams don't stay up forever and the Pies have been up for years now and will be losing alot of older champions.

A lot needs to go right to avoid a rebuild in the next 6 years at Collingwood.

A lot.

We haven’t been ‘up forever’. We beat the Eagles in the 1st final in 2020, and we were belted by Geelong and on the way down. We limped into the finals that year. It forced us to move Grundy, Treloar and Stephenson on and re-set.
We fell to 17th, in 2021, picked up Daicos and then improved to play a prelim in 2022 and won the GF in 2023.

We have a strong 24-29 age group. Pendles and Howe are probably done, but guys like Crisp and other 31 yr olds have at least another couple of years.

2 years is a long time in footy and can easily see some good kids come through. We have another father-son who looks capable coming through this draft, and then picking up a 27 yr old old who has been AA the last 2 years in such an important position, and you’ll can understand why Pie fans aren’t that concerned.

We’ll still win another premiership before North. Whether it be this year, next year or in the next 10 years.

Hahah I've never seen such delusion.

You'll be lucky to make finals 2025-2035 - just be grateful for '23, you truly lucked out.

You’re very chirpy after 1 win over Melbourne who are probably a bottom 4 side.

You remind me of that creepy guy who stands alone in a corner salivating over the popular girls who don’t even know you exist.

I truly can’t see Maynard coming to North for 4x$850k tbh. Why leave the Pies for North on that kind of contract?

If that’s all it took to poach him, the Dogs, Geelong and Brisbane could surely all afford to make the same offer, will need his type, and are all more likely to deliver success before he retires.

Rather than leave for $850k he would stay at the Pies for $750k and remain a 1 club player

I am not chirpy, I wouldn't have thought.

We have much work to do and whilst I don't particularly count wins over DemonFC as anything - Obviously the Dees defend pretty well usually, and are hard to beat in the midfield.

We achieved that much, this week should be a stern test for the three distinct areas of the ground, plus whatever we've been working on. It will be fully tested, probably gutted and improvement required.
Until that time, I'm going to enjoy what we could become, though not quite there yet for just a few more moments.

Ok he's 29. Let's say Collingwood offer him, $750k x3. Or we offer $850 x 4.

Security is the reason for leaving, whilst not compelling - it's a decent enough reason if that was all that was offered from either party. We might include an obtainable trigger for a 5th.

One win against the Dees and North supporters think they've already surpassed Collingwood

I'm always this arrogant and conceited. I don't rely on the performance of my footy team for anything but 3 hours on a weekend and a bit of time reading mostly biased nonsense from Turkey's. I'm ok with that. I play golf, ski, eat out a lot. Life's pretty good, boring, but good.

I have spent about 3 of the last 6 years overseas & 6 of the previous 10 to that. I really haven't experienced you being great, or my boys being toilet, for that long. Congratulations on '23... I had no idea you won that. A turn up. I remember 1990 well though, good fight and good win to your mob.

End of 2025 North will have finally turned the corner.

Added two more gun kids plus three mature age recruits.

Those extra AFL draft picks from several years ago will start making impact.

They are loaded with new talent young and old.

And I can see them winning a flag before Collingwoods next. Pies have invested a lot of picks in trading in established players. Its only really their luck with father csons that have delayed a rebuild. That luck doesnt last forever.

Its the quality of the guns about to retire that is telling. Pendlebury the best Collingwood player of all time. Hard to replace like for like there. Howe, Sidebottom, Mitchell a Brownlow medalist. Those are elite players. Again wont be easy bringing in players of that calibre.

They may do it and drop off for just a year or two and bounce back aka 2018, 2019.....they certainly did better than the Eagles did however that was due to stuffing their salary cap.. However these years when the list starts recovering are when Maynard will be 30 to say 33 and before they start climbing the finals top 8 ladder. And 35 when they start truely contending again. We are talking 6 years in the future here.

I think I agree. Don't have anything against the Pies, but it's 'MidTable Madness' for them for the foreseeable.

Surely. It would probably have been that way for a while without Daicos x2.

They're staying relevant but I'm looking forward to playing them, to be fair.

Maynard at 33? If we can’t find players over the next 5 years then we deserve to be bottom.

And what happens to North in the very likely event LDU walks out the door?
