Hope it all works out for him , gambling all his footy wages and having nothing to show for it at the end would not be good.

EXCLUSIVE: LION star Brendan Fevola has admitted he is undergoing counselling to cure a gambling problem that threatens to ruin his life.

The controversial recruit, who has been a long-time gambler, took his problem to coach Michael Voss in January and between them the pair worked out a plan to help him get his life back.

Probably the worst kept secret in footy, the papers did everything but name him as gambler with huge debts in a number of stories last year. Good to see him admitting to it (he denied it on footy show last year) and getting some help though.

Wish Fev all the best.

It is a sad indictment on my beloved Blues that Fev never got the help he needed at our club. You can't baby someone and maybe the trade has simply made him wake up but boy you can't help but see the support networks at clubs like the Lions and think we have a long way to go.

No idea.

The club employs a top psychologist with good qualifications who has helped Russell make it.

You don't hear of Kreuzer, Murphy and Gibbs doing the sort of things Fevola got up to.

Fevola is just a flog and an amateur photographer like his wife...

Hooper and Akermanis were sent packing by Brisbane.

They must have some support structure for their players.

I'm glad it was a Carlton supporter who stated this first. You really have to wonder why he was never confident enough at the Blues to seek the help everyone knew he needed.

Fev was at Carlton for almost 10 years but didn't have the relationship with any of his coaches to go and say "I have a problem". He had been at the Lions 3 months and felt comfortable enough to admit his problems to Vossy.

Psycologists can't solve everything. Most people only see them because they admit their problems to a friend/family member and are then referred to a professional (as he has been with Brisbane). The facts show Fev could not take that initial step at Carlton. Ultimately it is Fev's fault - but you can't help but question whether we did all we could. I would hate another player to be let down.

You have a habit of making crass comments without having a real understanding of the subject matter. I suggest you pull your head out of your backside.

Ever thought it was us giving him the sack that finally made him face his problems? Fevola was an A-grade ****wit when he playing at Carlton. He ruled the roost he knew it.

Him being traded is the best thing that's ever happened to him. It took a harsh punishment for him to actually understand the gravity of his actions.

The club did all they could for him. In fact, they did too much. The only way to sort out a person like him is give them a massive kick up the ass.

I wish him well, but i think it's rediculous to suggest the club weren't giving 100% in making one of their stars as happy as possible.

It has nothing to do with Carlton or Brisbane although I'm sure bigfooty will disagree and blame it on the big, bad, uncaring blues. We tried many times to help Fev but he was unwilling to admit that he had a problem. You cannot force an addict to seek treatment. They need to come to the realisation themselves that their behaviour is destructive. Good on him for finally admitting to it and I hope he gets the help he needs.

I agree the best thing we did was trade him. He now has the support network he needs. I however don't agree we did everything we could to help him, particularly in his early 20s.

There is something not right about Carlton and the way they opperate.

So it's Carltons fault he is a gambler ?

When is a man a man and not a kid who needs a baby sitter all time.

One thing that is a fact an A grade player will always get the help he needs a c grade gets de listed and you never here from him again.

Pot, kettle, black.

Any person associated with Collingwood throwing stones over player behaviour is a hypocrit of the first order.

But then again the Collongwood boys know that everyone around them will simply deny that it ever happened (so long as you can play). The coach and the players at Colngwoood love the emphatic denial - even when caught red handed.

I'm not saying that Collingwood is perfect, however I doubt anyone would disagree that the way Carlton is run is far from professional. People/Players/Coaches all make mistakes thats life, it's how would learn from those mistakes that counts. Yet more than anyone else Carlton seems to rear its ugly head.

Well done to Fev for finally seeking out help. I don't see how it can be Carltons fault, not much they can do if he couldnt admit to it (ala Footy show last year?).

Plus the Brisbane casino is a cardboard box compared to Crown.

Poor bastard. He may be an A-grade knob but addiction isn't an evil i'd wish on my worst enemy.

Has Fev overtaken Capper as the biggest dick to ever play AFL?

Answer me this question. What did Warrick ever do to deserve such outlandish and ill-informed opinions?

Much like Fev he is an entertainment machine, providing laughs and hilarity to those with even lower IQs(Carlton fans) than himself.

Though Warrick, or Mr Capper as I have adressed him the few times Ive met him is a genuinely good natured bloke with a healthy sense of humour who really does not deserve to be put in the sin bin with the likes of Fev.

Incidentaly their goals per game averages are identical, 3.1 according to http://www.stats.rleague.com/afl/stats
