Brendon Bolton - the happiest dude on earth?

I think a spray coming from someone who you're used to being angry all the time doesn't have the same effect as a spray from someone who is usually as cheery as Bolton is. You take more notice and word spreads around the group.

A spray from Clarko might be more intimidating but a spray from Bolton would be far more memorable I imagine.

Exactly its the quiet ones you have to be carefully of.

Not to rag on him, but when i put a face to the name he looked strange. Seeing him in action and his personality in press conferences..... he's very enthusiastic and excitable. Channel 7 just made him look like he talks like a horse jockey (not voice pitch, i just mean rate of speech and how fast he talks).

Love his smile.

After dealing with "Mr Turd in pocket" types like Malthouse for so long, I don't think the media reporters have got a clue on how to approach or handle bad boy Bolts!
This!

Our press conferences have been interesting for this alone.
The journos don't seem to know how to deal with him... the pressers have also been shorter.
Lol

I'm loving Bolt's pressers. So much of that faux media polish is just empty crap. I'd much prefer to see someone coaching like a pro, and fronting up to the cameras like an enthusiast.

Excuse the intrusion - just wanted to add my compliment on Brendon's presentation to the public.

With so many in the industry mumbling and grumbling about this or that its a welcome change to see a man behave in a manner that should remind his peers that once upon a time they were involved with footy for the pure love of the game.

More power to you Brendon Bolton :thumbsu:

Discussed exactly the same thing with a Hawks fan at work today lol. He has the press completely stuffed. They don't have any idea how to take him. Enjoying it while it lasts.

He's showing a lot of people up for how shallow they are. All you should be worried about is what he is saying, which has been super impressive. But, the media want to concentrate on the way he looks or the pitch of voice or whatever, meaningless shit and are missing the most important part.

Bomber Thompson is a bit the same, all the commentary is on his mannerisms and how he has a laugh, but a lot of the time if you really listen to what he is saying you understand why he is a good coach.

It's funny how Bolton's upbeat manner has the press gallery spooked, they're too used to dealing with unhappy coaches.

Have heard regular comparisons to a jockey who's just won a group one race.

And he's inspired a HUN article.

I cant understand why the press are giving him a hard time by mocking him for being happy and polite?!?!

Here are a few descriptions of Bolton which I perceive as unflattering from the article:
  • unusually — almost scaringly — upbeat
  • grin as wide as the Cheshire Cat and a high-pitch voice like he’d just ridden the Melbourne Cup winner
  • his counter-cultural, enthusiastic tone had the press secretly giggling under their breath.
  • Even stranger was how Bolton concluded his presser: “Thanks guys, appreciate it. Thanks for coming".
  • Herald Sun journalist Glenn McFarlane says it was the “most unusual press conference” he had ever been to.
Maybe after getting enough of this crap written about him he will start treating the press poorly in return.

Perhaps he's playing them and they don't even know it. Seems like an intelligent guy and a lot of these media types... don't.

It's ironic isn't it, they complain about Clarko when he punches walls and calls reporters 'cockroaches' then we give them the anti-Clarko and they are still not happy

Someone asked him about the fact that some people in the media had been sending up his upbeat style at his presser today which I thought was bordering on disrespectful, why ask a question like that? He just answered that he is who he is but he seemed a bit more subdued today, hope he hasn't taken all the mockery to heart :(

Agreed, seemed like he was making a point to tone it down today. I love his positive upbeat attitude, we don't see enough of it in football. Hope he keeps it up.
