Until today i was prepared to wait and watch what unfolded.
Without being inside the club, how could we on the outside really know.
Today, the captain/warrior gave us the answer ...

Saw it.

When the captain white flags it, big trouble.

I am sad to say but something needs to change, we can’t just continue to accept those performances without consequences.. I believed in Bolts and up until last week I was a fanboy, but the players continue to put in that cr@p and the rot starts at the top.

Cripps hasnt given a yelp the last 3 weeks and usually that deserves criticism but since we all know what a warrior he is it really does tell a story.

He knows Bolton's job is on the line and he can either stand up and try to save the coach he believes in or if he doesn't, maybe even subconsciously put in poor performances knowing it will result in change.

I thimk it's clear Patrick Cripps wants a new head coach.

Roos Director of coaching yet??
Good chance he will be
Did Bolton really say in the presser that "Cripps played a sacrificial role today" so he could "open up" our other mids?!
It was a 'wait...what????' moment. Not long to go now. Almost over. Can't wait to see the very best brought out of the lads in the near future.

If Bolton goes MLG doesn't have to just because he publicly backed him.
Judging by our recent appointments in key positions i'd say he's doing a good job.

Agree- not sure on this theory that of Bolton is sacked then MLG and SOS have to go / Why completely de-stabilise the club ?

I don't want him and the entire coaching fraternity sacked because we aren't winning, I want them all thrown out because the players have no ******* idea how to play modern football.

Whatever is happening is not conducive to successful development and player retention. The way we are playing is nothing short of a disaster.

this is the problem, watching losses hurts but if you can see what we are trying but not quite doing, you get the process.

we are a mess right now, the whole plan seems to be around the boundary then a high slow kick to an outnumbered forward. press up and repeat.

Unless we add senior experienced bodies end of this year we then have to wait for this group to reach 50-100 games

So 2021/22 pretty much. I’d tend to agree with that, in terms of the list build we are trying for.

Assuming its business as usual and we don’t get any real experienced elite talent in, I’d say we will win a total of 4 matches between now and r23 2020.

Im factoring in Bolts/SOS keeping on doing what they are doing, and the likely decline/injury or retirements of murph, simmo, daisy and Kreuzer in that period.

That would take us to 8 wins out of 76 from our current 4 from 43.

Can someone please explain to me the Robert Walls appointment? Was his brief to actually help and advise Brendon?

Yeah was strange. Can only think he was deflecting for Cripps having a bad game? Cripps clearly wasn’t himself today but was it because he’s given up on Bolts or did Cripps decide to illustrate to the players what happens when he doesn’t carry them the whole game as a lesson.

If it was a tactical move by the coaching staff then wtf[/QUOTE]

Well, then there is no baseline.

If the club wants to access it purely on current win/loss, then they too will make that call
Why is it that the Lions, who undertook a different style of rebuild to the Blues, are the only effective comparison for a rebuild?
FWIW I'm not anti-Bolts, I'm more a proponent of engaging someone external to thoroughly review the clubs operations, it's more beneficial IMO than simply sacking Bolton or Barker and expecting it to drastically change the outcome of our rebuild/difficult period.

I would be expecting more wins over that season and a half

Aint necessarily so. We have a bye coming up the boys will get a much needed blow. A bit of positive coaching, releasing the shackles a little on top
of a bit of physical respite could do wonders.

This is my frustration. We are young, but we are talented. We have the ability to win games and get our "tail up". There are multiple wins in this group. It is
about finding the combination. Bolts is bot conservative by nature and a driven type demanding harder work, when a little R and R would probably be more advantageous. At the moment we are flogging a dead horse, the boys (most of them) are busting a gut, effort is not the issue. To decree that effort is the issue is a kick in the guts to the group. Consciously or sub consciously they are on the decline. This is clearly (IMO) a less is more scenario. Trying to give more than you can is counter productive.

Very good points. I think it's a combination of trying too hard, fear of failure, and despondency/futility at the poor results. The players are mentally ****ed and it's horrible to see.

On another note, I realise that we're all a bit pissed off with results etc. but is there any chance that we can cut back on some of the sniping at one another?
We ultimately all want our side to be successful even if we do have different takes on how it's to be achieved.

Failing that, we could bust out the peace pipe.

The kac
The list is the problem, played a team that on paper should be hot favourite for winning the flag but due to a few floggings away from home aren't, their coach should be under pressure but due to flogging the worst list in the comp with a few players out wont be.

The task is enormously too big with the resources we have, it's going to be 7 years before we have a good list at Carlton and unfortunately this is just year 4.

Very clear our midfield were purely outplayed and that doesn't come down to coaching.

Anyone who thinks we should be winning very much overrates this list.
The lack of experienced players aged 24 to 28 who could mentor the younger players is a major list error.

You can use any club you like, Saints, Demons , Dogs, Tigers

Dogs had that perfect season, I very much doubt we will see that again, anytime soon, but stumbled since, if you take away the highs and lows, timelines generally level off.

Whether Bolton is sacked or not, the club needs to start a review before the end of the year, every department

Can't think of too many other times clubs have sacked a coach and then a host of other senior positions went at the same time.

Besides, i reckon evidence points to guys in other senior positions doing well so far.
  • MLG has brought us Judd, Liddle, SOS, Lloyd & Russell in key positions. That's a tick in my book.
  • Liddle has done well on the commercial CEO side of things given our on-field performances.
  • Lloyd hasn't been here long but immediately got us Russell, who is seen as one of the best in the business.
  • People may debate me about SOS but i think he's done a great job. His clever trading is the only reason we even have McKay, Curnow & Cunners on our list. Did well getting Setterfield and McGovern to come to us. Almost convinced Shiel despite a 2 win season. The players he's traded in and drafted will all look better under a better coach and game plan eg Lang & Kennedy showed good ability at their former clubs...imo it's not his fault they've both regressed under Bolton.

You would of expected more than that from the last season and a half as well than 3 wins.

Thing is in the short term (12-18 months) we are actually likely to get even worse than we are now, not better. The guys keeping the lights on over the years in Murph, simmo, Kreuzer and daisy could all conceivably be done or unavailable for most of 2020 factoring in their age and injuries.

Lose those guys for lengthy periods in 2019/20, it won’t be dramatically offset by incremental improvements of the younger guys.

Greater emphasis needs to be put on the mental side if the game.
