Members guernsey survey

10:45am AEST Wednesday, September 11, 2013
The Brisbane Lions will this month begin consulting with its Members on whether there is a genuine desire for a change to the Club’s guernsey.
The Club today wrote to its Members, where they were informed that every Member would get a say on the guernsey, as part of the Lions’ annual membership survey.
Lions Members only will be able to take part in the survey which will be sent via email to all Brisbane Lions’ Members later this month.
The letter sent via email to Members this morning read:
Dear Members
In recent months, the Club has received feedback from Members regarding the current guernsey, which has been in place since the end of 2009.
As you’re aware, the Club committed, via its Members Charter implemented in 2011, that it would seek to consult with its membership base regarding potential major changes to its guernsey.
As always, the Club wants to know what you think and will ask the following question as part of its annual survey of Members to be distributed later this month:
  • Do you believe the Lions’ guernsey should change design? YES / NO
The survey will be sent to ALL Lions Members via email in the week commencing September 16.
Members are urged to complete the entire survey – not just the question relating to the guernsey, as the survey software requires it for responses to be considered valid.
Members will have until Friday, 4 October, 2013 to complete the survey. Results relating to the guernsey will be published on lions.com.au in October.
The Club would like to thank you in advance for taking the time to participate in this survey.
Go Lions.

From all of us at the Brisbane Lions

Lions’ members have until Friday, 4 October, 2013 to complete the survey.

Results relating to the guernsey will be compiled and communicated back to its members on lions.com.au in October. Members are encouraged to update their details ASAP to ensure the Club has their correct email address. Members can do this by clicking on to their My Lions account. This survey would act as a precursor to further in-depth research should the response from members be overwhelmingly in favour of change.

About time! Exactly what I asked for as well, always wanted us members to vote our jumper back in rather than the club simply changing it.

Kudos to everyone who set up The Lions Roar who made this possible. I feel honoured to have helped out even in a small way.

Today is truly a great day to be a Lions supporter.

GO LIONS!

Any predictions from Lions members as to what the consensus will be?

The first question is whether the current jumper should be changed (Yes or No). Considering the way the question is worded and that there are some fans who want the old jumper back but aren't overly fussed about it I'm predicting 75-80% to say "Yes". If the question was about which jumper the fans preferred, I'd think the fans would be 90% in favour of our real jumper and 10% in favour of the paddlepop.

I reckon that's a bit over the top. I would guess a non paddlepop vote would hover around ~60% with the old jumper being around 60-65%. Also important that the club describes whether members who do not fill in the survey will count towards a vote for the jumper, as that is a pretty easy way to manipulate the results.

So do Lions members get to actually specify what changes they want made? Or will a YES vote just give the admin the green light to create a brand new abomination?

From my understanding it's a "Yes/No" vote for change and if there is enough "Yes" votes it will be followed up by another round of voting (with the actual designs).

Brisbane Lions - 2014 Jumpers if up to me (basically what I'd like to see)

Home kit - Worn in all home games (except HoF night) and away against Collingwood*, Geelong (if they're wearing white shorts)* and North*

Change kit - Worn away against GWS

Away kit - Worn away against Carlton, Essendon, Geelong (if they're wearing navy shorts), Hawthorn, Port Adelaide, Richmond, St Kilda and West Coast^

Clash/third kit - Worn away against Adelaide, Fremantle^, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Sydney and Western Bulldogs

Heritage kit - Worn on the Brisbane Hall of Fame dinner night

Notes:
- These were all done on MS Paint due to the fact I'm too lazy to get Photoshop.
* Despite my preference to wear our premiership jumper in Melbourne if there is absolutely no clash and therefore a complete contrast with the opposition, whether we wear our home or away jumper in Melbourne if there is no clash should be decided by our Victorian members.
^ All these "worn away against" are done with the assumption that every team has the same home jumper they currently have. If West Coast reverts to their blue jumper with gold wings design as their home jumper, we should wear our away against Fremantle and clash against West Coast.

First and foremost however, I'm just happy us members are finally getting a say. Hopefully the club does the right thing and doesn't rig the poll.

They should change the logo and the home jumper to the red, blue and yellow. Just about the best colour combo in the league IMO (after red and black of course).

Ah the 80's... when everyone in marketing was on cocaine...

This should be the only jumper Brisbane ever wear. Brisbane got the club at least let the old red, yellow and royal blue stay in the AFL. And it looks magnificent on the G' in the winter sun.

Hard to believe that the consensus wouldn't be an overwhelming yes. Although it seems like a backdoor way to get rid of the current under 10s looking thing and come up with something equally "designed" (read: horrible).

I hope they go back to the older style, though, it was really classy.

Hey Everton. Must make you feel fantastic that the board are at least considering change. Wonder how transparent the voting process will be, given whose in charge of it all...

Anyway, my ideas for what you guys should wear.

Home: Worn in all home games. Bringing back the old Fitzroy lion. The darker blue is also a nod to Fitzroy, who wore this in their early years up until the 70's.

Away (Victoria): A more modern Fitzroy inspired guernsey to be worn against all Victorian based teams in away games.

Away (Interstate): Bears inspired guernsey to be worn against all non-Victorian based teams in away games. I briefly considered white cuffs and collars (as the Bears did) and a brown colour, but ultimately I chose to use cerise because it's prettier lol.

As much as people want the old Fitzroy Lion back, I feel a new lion is needed just something better than the "paddle pop lion" they have. I think the Lions in the super rugby have a great logo.

No.

We are the Brisbane Lions and our colours are maroon, blue and gold. We are also based in Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland. The state colour of Queensland is maroon. Also we're not Fitzroy or the Bears, however both teams are obviously a part of our history and need to be honoured equally. The later Bears colours were maroon, gold and white while Fitzroy wore "maroon" (which was red), blue and gold, the maroon, blue and gold colours are a perfect compromise, so is having the jumper predominately maroon, with a blue yoke and gold "Fitzroy" Lion. This is the jumper that was openly embraced and accepted by old Bears and Fitzroy supporters, the one that younger fans who started supporting the Brisbane Lions grew up loving and the jumper we created our own history as a merged club by winning three consecutive premierships.

However I do like having the red, blue and gold as our "second" or "alternate" colours for away games to honour the Roys and would also like gold and maroon worn as our "third" or "clash" colours for other away games to honour the Bears. Our home strip should always be maroon, blue and gold.
