Brisbane should wear the old Fitzroy gurnsey in every game (not just Melbourne)

Very sad and painful that there weren't many of us on the books as members at the very end! Would have liked a membership for all the Fitzroy supporters at the last game against Richmond..........had to be 20,000 Roys there.........they were everywhere!!:(

True Roy- and I know it was always a big source of regret for me, being stuck in Brisbane while all of this was happening to the club...

I grew up in Fitzroy (and still live there) and went to the footy each week with four mates. We were all hardcore Royboys and members throughout the 80's and 90's.

Only two of my mates and myself went with Brisbane following the 'merger.' We didn't hesitate. We've been members of the Brisbane Lions since and have been up to Brisbane to attend Finals games.

The other two mates said they couldn't follow an interstate team and decided to follow a different club. One went for Geelong. The other StKilda.

However, they never bought a membership for these clubs and hardly went to a game. Neither have been to a game for a few years now. They've basically been lost to the AFL.

This is just my own experience with the whole post-merger demographics debate.

Thanks for the heads up. I read the article this afternoon. It is well worth a look.

Hope you end up being right about that Catters, that's for sure mate...

I think that the Brisbane Lions may assist in helping build a Fitzroy Lions football club for the VFL. Not sure why, but i think it will happen....

That would be sweet.

Thanks for letting us know.

Which shops that?

If you went to the F1 shop you would find that jumper is an A F L heritage jumper worn in one of the rounds in the A F L and would pay over a hundred bucks.
If you want value just go to the Fitzroy shop and Museum and you can buy a 1996 for about 75 or 85 bucks and it can also be ordered though the club in your size they stock all sizes and mail them out.
www.fitzroy.com.au will give you all the phone contacts and how to buy one.
Remember when you by from the club it is cheaper and all moneys help Football IN FITZROY

Did I mention that the jumper also carries the AFL Centenary and "Quit" sew-on logos, "First-18" tags and is made from the same material of that year?

Its not a heritage jumper... otherwise it would have the Heritage Round logo on it, but it is about 100 bucks.

sorry people but i am new to bf but can someone tell me is this the ffc home page or another bris lions page

This is most definitely the Fitzroy forum on BigFooty, and is not connected with Brisbane Lions.

Also, the official Fitzroy FC website is at http://www.fitzroyfc.com.au

thanks mate keep up the fight you will not be forgotten

Absolutely mate - this is one of the reasons why I've always felt some kind of support for North Melbourne, apart from my loyalty to Fitzroy & to the Demons.

You guys, like the Roys and the Demons as well, truly understand what being a part of a club and a community really means.

Why would it never happen? Nothing's completely impossible as far as these things go.

If we made it back to the VFL one day, I'd certainly think this was within the realm of possibility...

Some WCE fans aren't exactly a gracious and thoughtful lot Roy.

SO damn satisfying to see the Demons beat them comfortably today - for the second time in a row at the 'G too ;)

Thanks Roy, and it's been a party for all Demons supporters on BF since that moment to be honest :D

There are a fair number of good WCE supporters, but a LOT of shameless trolls, I'm sorry to say.

Incidentally, I do have a fair amount of time for Freo & their fans - especially since they did for us Roys in our last AFL match what the AFL didn't have the decency to do themselves...

Wasn't the comment about the Brisbane Lions and Sydney playing at the MCG and wearing the old Fitzroy and South Melbourne jumpers?

Great idea, but I'd have to agree that it is highly unlikely to happen, considering both clubs are based interstate. I can't see the AFL, or the clubs involved for that matter, giving up the home ground receipts that they'd get from hosting a home game at their own home ground. I doubt that the AFL would even consider it as a request even if it was put forward.

Of course there's always the possibility of the Lions and Swans playing off in a Grand Final! It'd be great seeing the Fitzroy and South Melbourne supporters get behind the two clubs, although, Sydney do have the wood on the Lions a bit, so I'm not so sure if I'd be as happy as if we were playing Collingwood (considering their woeful GF record and the fact that we generally give them a hiding :D).

Another suggestion might be for the clubs to host a pre-season game in Melbourne and wear the old jumpers. It'd be good seeing them play somewhere like Princes Park.

Personally I don't think it's a great idea for Fitzroy to entertain thoughts of establishing a VFL team, and even if they did, I'd imagine that it'd be near on impossible trying to get a VFL game onto the MCG. Perhaps another idea might be for Fitzroy to try to get a team into the TAC Cup. Considering the success of the Fitzroy juniors, perhaps a team under the name of Fitzroy might be able to pool players from inner-city junior teams to have a representative team in the TAC Cup. I suppose we'd be competing with the Northern Knights and Calder Cannons over the zoning of the areas, though.

Interesting idea. I think a few AFL clubs treated us like a TAC Cup team in the 1990's. They let us develop the junior players, then they took the good ones off our hands.
