Which team is best placed to beat Richmond next week?
Lions, imho. Just.
Yesterday's pressure would have been too much.
We are fantastic when a team is off and we are allowed to play our game.
But are we able to instigate that pressure tonight against a fresh and hungry Lions team in Brisbane?
Our 7 goals third quarter v Lions has not escaped my memory.
you get the pressure game is a coaching strategy right and not a function of individual player will? Its just odd that you disagree so much with scotts game plan yet support him so much as a coach.

CS had to remind Selwood last week prematch that the team had to jump out and get on the front foot. He can do no more. If we go out with the hunting mindset and apply it well, we win. If not, we are chasing. Collectively, we appear to be fragile physically and mentally against the pressure we saw last night. No coincidence that our last 2 losses have been against those 2 teams. CS has more faith in his boys than I do.
Yes, I continue to rate him HIGHLY as a fantastic coach, and that will not change IF we get done tonight. We are not and should not be favourites, but there is very little in it.

Please turn up, Geelong. For the love of God, just get this one before it's too late for many of our players.

It's unlikely that anybody beats the disgusting game-ruining Tigers next week, but this team deserves a Grand Final appearance.

Whoever wins this one, I hope it's an easy game that's over by half-time. The only thing in Geelong/Brisbane's favour is that Richmond had a 4-qtr slog in the wet last night. With interstate travel added into the mix, that might just be enough to go all the way.

Play the game as it should be played, boys. Let's go!

AFL.com.au reporting Darcy Gardiner is a fitness concern for tonight after injuring his knee in the main training session.

Jack Payne is the replacement if he doesn't get up.

EDIT: What TL1988 said!

In reading the Geelong Preliminary Final article (https://www.afl.com.au/news/518039/a-decade-of-mostly-falling-short-cats-preliminary-final-heartache) - the one thing that really stood out to me is that we only really went into one of those games as favourite (2016, vs Sydney). In all the others, as I recall it, we went in either as definite underdogs (Hawthorn 2013, Richmond 2019) or rank outsiders (Adelaide 2017).

It reminds me a bit of our runners-up streak from 89-95 - at the time it was awful, but in retrospect, we didn't really choke - we just weren't as good in a two-horse race.

Of those the Sydney one was the one I was most sure we'd lose lol. They matched up very well against us at that point in time. Conversely I think we'd had three very structurally convincing wins against Adelaide in a row before that prelim, so I thought we could do them but of course we got mauled.

Thing is even if we were slight underdogs in all of them, surely the expected return after four is at least one win. That's the disappointing part.

I don't remember even one of them being "slight underdog" status, we were pretty comfortably underdogs in all of them IIRC, bar the Sydney game.

Well unless we were 4:1 outsiders in all of them we've done worse than expected.

These prelim losses remind me of the 92, 94 and 95 GF losses.
We did really well just to get there, but always came up against a superior team.
I'm not sure if Lions are better than us, but we will find out tonight. They finished second, but already, Port is out.

Thankfully tonight we aren’t rank underdogs. Playing against less experienced side , no injuries, fresh Selwood, Stanley, Gaz, paddy. Settled game structure. Won 10/11 against lions. 4 zip at GABBA this year as a virtual ‘home ground’
and we just witnessed tigers getting it done interstate therefore we can too.
It really is a no excuse prelim.

If the game were on neutral territory I would agree.

The Tigers are just a better side, though. They are still the best team in it.

What id give for Cats to kick the 1st 2-3 goals of the game like last week

Geel are nervous starters - even last week - a Coll bloke nearly took a mark at CHF - then the guy in the forward pocket dropped a sitter

The funny thing with Geel - is they are dodgy starters - however if they get the 1st couple of goals - they seem to settle and get enormous confidence - and are probably the worse opposition team in the comp from that point on to play against - because they get real confident

Danger signs for Lions with important defender in doubt
Darcy Gardiner could be a late withdrawal for Saturday night's preliminary final against Geelong

Hang on.

1/ we've beaten the team we play tonight.
2/ we were good enough in 92'. Only gf I've been to.

Was trying to work out the best option to calm the pre-match nerves - watch the replay of last weeks semi final or watch a movie

Decided to go with a movie as a distraction for an hour or 2
I’m doing the same thing, I also in nerves today bought a new tv at like 11am thinking I would get it today
It’s coming tomorrow, so I better be able to watch them on it next week
