Trade him. I hate Brittan as a coach.

Seriously, given that you are taking him on as an assistant, you've done well in getting him. He'll be great value as an assistant.

He will be the intelligent front man, while Frawley is told to shut up and say nothing. Good move. A ready made coach if there is a mid year sacking. I wonder if Danny feels secure tonight?

BRITTS

In britts, you are sure to get one thing. A passionate football man. Lives and Breathes footy. You have yourself a ready made coach when , not if, when potato gets the chop.....

Tigers win battle for Brittain

Former Carlton coach Wayne Brittain says the chance to work with Danny Frawley and new Tigers’ football director Greg Miller plus the chance to be involved with one of Victoria’s biggest AFL clubs was the reason he chose to join Richmond as an assistant coach.

Brittain had been pursued by five clubs after being sacked by the Blues, in favour of dual premiership coach Denis Pagan, last month after a disastrous and injury-plagued 2002 season in which Carlton claimed their first ever wooden spoon.

However the man who led the Blues to the finals in 2001 before this year’s terrible season said after much consideration, he wanted to resume his coaching career at Punt Road.

"There were a number of reasons why I decided to choose Richmond," Brittain told richmondfc.com.au.

"Greg Miller is a very good footy person, so I'd have to say that his appointment (as Richmond's Director of Football) impressed me and certainly had an influence on my decision.”

"(And) I like the way Danny (Frawley) goes about his stuff.”

“He's got the type of qualities I like in people -- he's honest and straightforward.”

Brittain also said the Tigers’ status as one of the AFL’s biggest drawcards was also another reason he decided to resist offers from other clubs such as Melbourne and the Kangaroos, particularly after having come from a club such as Carlton.

"I suppose I was also keen to get involved with Richmond because they are one of the "Big 4" Victorian clubs (along with Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon),” Brittain said.

“They draw big crowds and generate plenty of passion.”

“The supporters love you if you win, and hate you if you lose. There's no in-between and it's exciting to be part of a club like that."

Brittain said he believes the Tigers, who like Carlton slipped alarmingly in 2002 from third to 14th, had plenty to look forward to in the immediate future.

"There's an exciting young playing group at Richmond and a lot of untapped talent there,” he said.
“I think some of the players have only scratched the surface in terms of their ability and what they have to offer.”

Although it is extremely rare for a former senior coach to move straight back to being an assistant coach at a rival club, Brittain said he did not want his presence to be interpreted as a threat to Frawley, who is about to embark on his fourth year as the Tigers’ senior coach.

"I am Danny's assistant -- nothing else," he said.

"Danny is the senior coach at Richmond and I'll be there to fully support him.

Frawley said Brittain's appointment was great news for the Tigers.

"Wayne's football expertise is second to none and we're rapt that he's chosen us over Melbourne," Frawley said.

"It's testament to his character that he was so highly sought after by clubs following a season at Carlton that I'm sure he'd prefer to forget.”

tactics

Tactically he's not a bad coach. He had bad grade cattle on the park this year, but as a strategist, he's not it. Though I'm sure he will learn with time and experience...

Watch it spud...just make sure you give him the credit for playing Richo off half-back like he used to do with Lance :)
