Re: Brock Mclean/Jetta

McClean traditionally starts slowly each year, I didnt see past the first quarter but on from hearing some of the feedback, last night was so slow it was enough for a discussion, i think he will pickup 20-25 possys a game, win a few hardballs and contribute to Carlton this year.

What he wont do is, burn off opponents, deliver precision kicks into the forward line or be a consistent BOG star, if you guys were expecting that you will be dissapointed

Cheers :thumbsu:

We were experimenting with Judd in the forward line, Gibbs in the backline while Murphy, Walker and Simpson weren't playing so the focus was on shutting Brock down. I still think he'll compliment our midfield very well.

The hubris on this forum is as thick as syrup. Brock is all mouth and no substance, a shame because his father was the exact opposite. Let's hope he takes stock of his low act last night and changes his ways. Kirk is leagues ahead of him in football ability and character if he took his gesture and returned it he may have learned something.

And by the way football is not war! It is a game where a pigskin toy is kicked around in circles:rolleyes:

We actually got Mclean for free.

We gave Melbourne pick 11 and got Mclean.

But in the Fev deal we got back pick 12, so we lost nothing really. Ratten has said regardless of pur picks 11 or 12 Kane Lucas was always going to be our pick.

My wife ofen uses this style of logic to justify her shopping

With Judd out until round 4, and possibly Walker, Houla and Betts, McClean will have ALOT to prove in the opening month of official season!

actually we didnt, if we didnt take Mclean we would of had pick 11 and 12. 2 first round picks not 1.

Was Brock heavily tagged at Melbourne?

Re: Brock Mclean/Jetta

Was Brock heavily tagged at Melbourne?

He certainly was in 2007/2008, not so much in 2009 when Davey predominantly took over the #1 tag.

Looking back at his stats, I think Brock traditionally has had alot of trouble playing on Kirk (assuming they've been matched up each time, which I vaguely remembering happening). For what its worth he's averaged 12 disposals in his last 3 games vs the swans.

Now having had a chance to reflect on last nights game, I still maintain that one pre-season is fairly meaningless, and MS made a good point that we can now concentrate on playing three NAB Challenge games, all of which will be under normal AFL rules, and which we can work on our structures alot more.

And there's a lot of work to be done. We're way behind where we were this time last year. Main problem with Brock last night was his attitude. Although if he actually got a kick maybe we'd be bagging his disposal instead... He wasn't alone though.

'Low act' You knob.
So what if someone doesn't want to shake hands before a game.As long as you do after the game.
There is a lot of precious people on here:rolleyes:

I thought I was rather measured in my critique of Mclean's game tonight, it wasn't as if it was a mindless rant or hyperbole...

The fact we paid a very high price for him (a first rnd draft pick) is a decent reason to be critical of a very poor debut game ...

Don't worry man, there are a lot of people on here who don't want to accept the truth. I thought you were spot on with McLean's performance last night. Just a clear reminder to everyone talking about how good a shape their body looks in the pre season training, it's not about how they look, it's about if they can perform and McLean might have looked ready to go all pre season, he clearly didn't show anything to be excited about.

If not shaking Kirk's hand was a sign that he was taking his Carlton debut serious and wanted to impress in his first game for the club, he failed. If it was a sign of how much of a ******** he is, he succeeded.

However, the year is young, let's hope it's not a sign of things to come from Mr McLean.

I'm not for a moment weighing into the pros and cons of the trade, but that logic is ridiculously flawed. Brock cost us pick 11. If we didn't get him, we would have had picks 11 and 12. In no way was he free.

I'll put my money on Brock not being right last night.
He's shown immeasurably more than that at training and that wasn't the same player for whatever reason last night.
There was one passage of play I think I could have moved quicker then he did.

Let's see if something comes back from the club this week, if this was the case.
Please no witch hunts here yet.
Haven't we progressed beyond the dark ages?

Trust me, as a Melbourne fan, he always looks good in pre-season. He is always up the front in the time trials etc. which provides the fans with great hope for the coming year.

Having said that, it doesn't always translate into on-field performance.

He is slow, and struggles once the ball is away from the stoppages and in open play. Further, his kicking can be erratic on occasion, and he is undoubtedly injury prone.

More positively speaking, he runs all day, is courageous, tough and never gives in. He normally finds a lot of it as well.

In sum, I think he'll do a job for you this year, but don't expect anything miraculous following his past couple of seasons.

Where's the witch hunt?

McLean played shit last night (he wasn't alone), and he is being rightfully criticised it. Even McLean himself would acknowledge that he was terrible.

Mate, do you track me down and if I say tomato you say tomatoe?

One game (albeit a very poor one) and the knives are out.
I'll tell you why he was recruited here and that is to extract centre bounce clearances for the likes of Judd, Gibbs and co. which he'll do very well in.
It didn't work very well last night did it, in a first half situation where it should have with Warnock rucking.

What really irks me though, is that as the year rolls on we'll have some people here setting up a roast for a player and then a toast the next week for the same guy.
Then we'll have the same fickle contributors (that term is also questionable in this case) setting out an agenda on a player at all costs.
These same people then lock their little minds into an attack mode and seem to be immeasurably happier to see the player fail, for the sole purpose of being able to call out, "I told you so"

Most of us on this board are happy to go along for the ride that a season brings us, you know the cheers and the tears.
Some conversely just pop their heads out of their lonely shell to add disapproval of anything that doesn't fall their way.

Before you call out potatoe against my potato, this is a general assessment of how some of us go about airing our grievances here but all I ask of those people is to view a picture beyond the immediate here and now.

^^^^WTF???

Couldn't care less about whose posts I'm responding to. If I feel compelled to comment about something, I will.

Chill out with the unnecessary attack...

Brock last night made creationist ability to evolve look lightening quick by comparison. Shit even Fish looked like a springbok in comparison.

We didn't recruit him for leg speed but his impact 'inside' was non-existent. Was he really that focussed before the game?

I know it was only a praccy game. ;)

When Richmond play it's more like kids playing in a sandpit ..and dropping their shovels and buckets reguarly .

M'cleans form last night would have seen him best on ground for your bunch of hacks .

stick to the bleakmond board, we aren't interested in your braindead waffle .
