No, the suggestion is to land him as a free agent with an offer Collingwood can't match due to salary cap pressure. All Collingwood would receive is the compensation draft pick via the AFL.
I find it hard to believe that Collingwood would not be willing/able to match anything less than a stupidly high figure i.e. one that would be well overs for a ruck.

Does DeGoey also coming out of contract at the same time affect their ability to offer top coin?...nah, probably not when vic clubs can circumvent the salary cap with 3rd party deals that we would get smashed by the AFL for

All this media talk of ROB is great but after 4 yrs on our list if he was even half good he would have beaten the Richmond rucks last week, they are both kids.
I'd be interested to see how he plays firstly this week after being embarrassed last time we played the cats (contributing to a home loss) I concede he was only a few games in.
Secondly how he plays against a quality ruckman/midfield when the whips are cracking late in the year.
The fact he can't kick a basic set shot for goal is also a massive concern,
He's a definite upgrade on sauce but remember sauce was cooked 12 months ago.
Grundy takes us to the next level especially with our current midfielders, if he's getable get him.
Simple as that.

No doubt if he was half as good, he'd have beaten the Richmond kids, however there is a difference between winning and dominating a game, and most rucks aren't capable of dominating a game even if it is on their terms. ROB dominated that Richmond game, and especially considering he is a kid himself, that was a massive plus.

Also, the fact he can't kick a basic set shot for goal isn't a concern at all. Just means he isn't an option to go forward which we weren't considering as an option anyway.

Fair call but AFL teams are now built on flexibility and being able to play/cover multiple positions for advantages on game day and also cover injuries. Given the only other position ROB can play is a resting ruck forward I'm sure our coaches are very concerned he can't kick.

It's not "as simple as that", unless you have a very broad definition of "gettable". I think it's clear that he would be "gettable" only at a very high price.
One of, if not the best player in the league wants to come to my team.. yep I'm paying for him.
Proven star that makes us a flag contender, provides huge clearance numbers himself while tapping it down our mids throats.
Crouch bros would absolutely dominate.

will you change your name in 5yrs time to reidscrewedus when it all falls apart then?

here is a novel thought. If the club does go all out to get Grundy, then play ROB as the main ruck and play Grundy as another midfielder at the same time...then he can drift forward or back as needed. He has the athletic profile and wins a lot of possessions and clearances

We won't get him.

Doesn't fit our player payment model.

Will want a long term contract.

Collingwood will want too much - not worth it.

ROB is good enough to rely on next year; if he's not up to it, then go for Grundy as a Free Agent.

He's just using us to pump up his contract.

AS A SIDE NOTE, IF TRIGG AND CO HADN'T ****ED US WITH THE TIPPETT DEAL, WE'D PROBABLY HAVE GRUNDY ANYWAY.

You'd certainly confuse some midfielders and opposition coaches the first time you did that, that's for sure.

He was taken the pick before our original pick, Sydney didn't have a pick before us. He'd still be at Collingwood

To a degree. There are some positions you care about flexibility, others not so much. First ruck would be one where its not important to have that player being able to rotate elsewhere as you would want to put as many minutes into him rucking as possible, due to how specialised the position is. We wouldn't be considering ROB as an option to cover any injuries even if he could go forward, and a forward/ruck is there to cover the worst option of ROB being injured.

Equally to that, it's not that ROB can't kick seeing his field kicking is ugly but usually effective. Just set shots, and we'll be very happy with ROB over the course of his career if that is his biggest problem.

Get two of Walker, Jenkins and Gibbs off the books, giant waste of 2.2m or whatever it is.

If I'm the Crows I go for a Flag in 2021.

Sloane is 31, Lynch 30, Talia 29, Keith 29, Greenwood 29, Smith 29. Similar ages to Hawks core.
Crouches in their prime, Laird 27
Doedee 2nd year back
Milera developed midfielder
Another year for our young smalls.
Berg 22.5.
2nd year for pick 2 prodigy.
Trade ROB, get players. Possibly specialist forward
Get Grundy (27).
Betts 34 - Issue, see how he goes.
Keep Saunders, pay him whatever.
List will look younger without MacKay, Douglas, Jacobs.

ROB won't be cheap enough for that to be an option. We're looking at probably 500k per year (x3, or x4) to keep him at this current point of time, not the amount of money on someone who may not be up for it. Something that could end up potentially unmovable should we encounter some second year blues, or an LTI.

You give ROB the contract at seasons end, you give up on Grundy.

ROB will be offered more than 500k. Seeing way too many ruck slaughters this year. Beat Gawn in the hitouts which is almost impossible for anyone on the planet

ROB will get offered more than that.

Might potentially get offered 600k, but with AFL contracts, within 150k would see a club usually keep their man (especially seeing ROB has sounded out that he'd like to stay). Any contract will be around the Sauce mark money wise, which i'm pretty sure that is.

Also hitouts is an incredibly useless stat, so that won't add a cent to his contract. The money is going to be from how much can he double up as an extra midfielder, and there is a lot of promising signs in that regard.

Hitouts have some importance, allowing too many hitouts to advantage puts you at a big disadvantage.
