The saviour Ben king compared to checkers. I think a few are a little to harsh on our workhorse

Big Dan and Checkers do seem to end up at the same contest a lot, unavoidable at times I know, but I’m hoping a couple more games together will give them more cohesion. I’m really liking Howey up forward. Not only is he a genuine threat he’s got the defensive nous to play Sicily types better and make them more accountable.
Billy being back there frees his move forward up and they looked committed to him staying there. Darcy a huge loss back there of course.
Pretty sure it's intentional. As we don't want to concede marks with bombs to the hotspot.

He is not a champion. He is a good player at best when playing well. Currently he is offering absolutely nothing and deserves to be dropped.
Assuming Mihocek wins the Coventry this year, that will take him to 5. Only Gordon Coventry, Dick Lee, Peter McKenna & Sav Rocca have more (he joins a few on 5).

That's pretty decent company

He redeemed himself on Friday night. Prior to that, he was in a very poor form. He did deserve to be dropped, even though it was never going to happen. He is not a champion either. Not sure how you can say I’m wrong, when you saved your reply until after he kicked a bag.
I wasn’t writing him off, I was only stating a fact based on his current form and career as a whole. Anyone who considers him a champion is deluded.

A great effort, but a statistic that doesn’t really paint the whole picture. Peter Daicos was a far better forward, despite not being a leading goal kicker in a season as often. He was however the leading goal kicker in a premiership year, with a lazy 97 goals.

You were wrong that he should be dropped.
Fly showed faith and was rewarded. So were we as we wouldn’t have won without him.

Not bad for a mature aged rookie listed defender

Along with AJ, I would have dropped him too, and played Kreuger in his place. He still didn't take a contested mark, which was my criticism of him, but kicking goals the way he did is ultimately all that's required from him. I don't mind being wrong. Maybe Kreuger would have starred if given a spot in the forward line, and chopped out in the ruck in place of McStay. All's well that ends well. Life goes on.

I am not sure how many more examples we need that the zone does not work.

They need to shut down the interceptor. If that means adjusting the zone then so be it.

Our 17-4 ladder position tells a different story to yours re our zone defence.

How good was this rookie draft selection (#22) back in 2018? Absolute warrior. Gets belted around from pillar to post every week and just keeps plugging away. Love him.

Hard to believe he was the VFL Full back of the year the two years prior to us bringing him in as a mature aged rookie. I can't recall him ever playing back for us and instead has kicked 200 plus goals.

We have some amazing stories at the club. Markov snatched back from the gates of hell (Carlton), JFN from the first mid-season draft, Bobby the bargain recruit (arguably the best value player to change clubs at the end of 2022); the reinvention and redemption of JDG - but Checkers tops the lot for me. He has been so good for us, and so brave. He takes a pounding nearly every week but never complains, takes the pain and gets straight back up. So pleased he has a premiership medal.

Massive success story. Carried the forward line and been a battering ram. Stayed as a rookie for a few years and been relatively underpaid his whole career.

Doubt he was underpaid. We can pay him what we like as a rookie beyond his initial 1st contract. Only benefit to us is some of a rookies salary is outside TPP.

Love this bloke, him & Luke Ball, mmm.. I'm in heaven!!!

I don't know what that sandwich would be called but you know you want one.

You can't beat value players performing on the biggest stage.
It makes my heart sing seeing these guys along with blokes like Cameron, Possum, Goldy and The Anvil lord it over the plebs with their hard earned, deserved, Premiership medals.

Many may not have considered that Checker's contribution in the GF was all that significant, but I just watched the last few minutes.... yet again. :D Our leading goal kicker of the last five seasons had swung into defence. Thirty seconds or thereabouts to go, he crashed the pack, bringing the ball to ground and creating a ball up, thereby thwarting a Brisbane attack. Twenty seconds later, he had isolated himself on the back flank, took the mark and bombed one down to the forward flank, where as we all know, the siren went seconds later. Love Checkers..... he's my favourite player, for plenty of justifiable reasons!!!!

The contest where he spoiled Quaynor?

Wouldn’t mind him getting that out of his game! Would have been another goal to us in both the Prelim and GF.
