Has moved beyond being a midfielders medal….a select few mids are clearly so prominent in the umps minds that the voting is horrendously skewed towards them.

Cripps and Daicos seem to have votes in the bag before they even get off the bus pre-game.

How does Cripps get 45 and Bont 14 or whatever he got….Bont does everything Cripps does and more.

Well Bont spends more time forward, probably having more of an impact on a game, so that won't help.

I think the reward needs to be renamed.
The reward has lost its meaning.
Coleman player kicks most goals in a season
Rising Star best young player in the season
Brownlow player who the umps want to make extra cash from by deeming him best player of the comp in a seasosn, but not make it look too obvious 😉

If this was soccer I would assume that it is corruption at play. Perhaps I am too naïve when it comes to footy.

It seems to me that it would be well within the scope of a senior umpire to tip the scales. You can't create winner out of nothing, that would be too obvious. But being in a position to ensure that Cripps gets 2 or 3 votes a few times when he wasn't that good could easily be the difference.

I don't care enough to look back on it but it would be very interesting to see which combinations of umpires gave Cripps votes. Maybe that needs to be traced back a few years...
