Worked his arse off here and has the right physical attributes, but he gave several direct opponents the literal best statistical game they'd ever played. Good luck to him.

Did he though? I remember him playing his debut game with intensity, getting injured 10 minutes in and then our dumbarse coach deciding he was a permanent fixture. From that point I don't recall him having any AFL standard attributes, up to and including "working hardery"

The 200cm Athletic thing will get guys more than one look at this level though, no one really wants the dinosaur types anymore regardless of actual ability with ball in hand.

Dinosaur types are underrated they're usually the best ruckmen bar a few freaks.

Nank the tank, big O, O'Brien, Todd Goldstein's corpse, they're all in that category imo .

Then you have "amazing athletes" like Rhys Stanley and blicavs who are shit rucks.

He didn't nominate.
Maybe he needs some time off and will come back at it. Maybe his footy career at an elite level is done. Maybe no one was interested so he didn’t bother.

Not sure anyone will quite get to the bottom of what happened from ‘best ruck not in the AFL’ with Sydney having a look to surpassed by a raw WAFL player. People will say Hinkley, Port crap at tall development etc - can only go on what we can see and that’s that Teakle got a trial at Collingwood and drafted by North. Hayes isn’t on a list.

being coached by clarko for 5 minutes has to be better than anything he's done in the last 5 years well done brian tinkle

Collingwood and us watched him play football he didn’t last 2 minutes, he maybe 200cm but if you can’t mark a ball means nothing.
I'm not disagreeing with you, but that's why he's getting chances purely on height & athleticism, it's why the game is full of athletes with rubbish skills they want players that can cover the ground.

He played 6 games in one and a half seasons. He was hardly a permanent fixture. :D

Sam Hayes played as many games as Brynn in 2023 and apparently Sam was completely ignored.

Ignoring the game where he broke his collarbone:

Port def by Richmond 71-109
Teakle: 73 SuperCoach points
Toby Nankervis: 158 (highest on ground)

Port def WCE 109-69
Teakle: 85 SC
Bailey Williams: 133 (highest on ground, career high)

Port def St Kilda 83-76
Teakle: 60
Rowan Marshall: 159 (highest on ground)

Port def Essendon 92-87
Teakle: 42
Sam Draper: 110 (2nd highest on ground)

Port def North 135-65
Teakle: 67
Todd Goldstein: 171 (highest on ground)

edit: Sorry i've just realised you meant you didn't see any AFL standard attributes. I think he was fairly elite at the attributes that didn't require talent.

Teakle has an excellent attitude, workrate and moves very well for a big man, but my god he got beaten badly every time he played for us. I think that he moved fairly smoothly for his size blinded the coaches to what was going on with him, and has arguably blinded North as well with this draft pick.

If you could combine Teakle's workrate and physical attributes with Hayes' ruck craft, you'd have an AA ruckman.

I'm sure Schulzenfest made money by putting a few quid on Teakle's opponents (there might have been some career-best figures among that lot).

Teakle played like he was being controlled in an afl playstation game by someone that had not seen the sport before and had not used a playstation controller before
