I can't remember the year or that round or anything like that, but I can remember moments from the game itself.

Carey started to go nuts halfway through the game, at one point he was kicking his arms and legs around like a psycho when standing the mark.

It was a great moment, and yet another reason why I still rate Buckley higher then Carey, more so for Buckley's versatility then anything else.

Yeah this was one of my childhood memories. Around 1998 or 1999. Buckley gave him a bath on numerous occasions.

Unfortunately my other childhood memory was when Sav Rocca couldn't get a kick on Brebdan Gale every time he played on him. I still hate Brendan Gale to this day depsite all the good he has done with the AFLPA. :D

I saw him play a half on Carey once. It was during the Tony Shaw years and before Presti was an established player. Buckley's half on Carey has become glorified over the years. Carey kicked a couple of goals and shaded Bucks. Much to everyone's surprise, Presti - who was considered a hack at the time, went on to Carey in the second half and caned him.

I have this game on VCR, it was in 1996, and he did towel him up. It was a very fiesty match-up too.

EDIT: I think it was Round 15.

I vaguely remember hearing about it, think I was too young to watch a whole game at that stage!
Did we win the game?? I would have been when North were awesome, yeh?

Got something like 35 touches, completely dominated him. It was end of 1996. He spoiled the high ball and then just pasted Carey on the ground. You could see Carey looking in disbelief the arrogant f*** that he was.

You know how had a good record on Carey from Collingwood, Mark Richardson. Must have played about 4 games on him and beat him each time.

Matthews played Bucks on the HBF in his first few years with us and yes tagged Carey the first game and destroyed him, next game betweem these 2, Carey got the chocolates that time. It tells you about it in Buckley's Autobiography :)

I remember them matching up on eachother in 2000 (I think)... pretty sure North were wearing those orange jumpers. Bucks and Carey got a bit heated

I remember that game, it was fantastic! I went to most of the games that year as a kid and this was the best of a horrible year. We were shit all year and the roos were killing it (eventual premiers) and we just piled it on in the last quarter.

By the way looking at the stats Paul Williams was a bit stiff not to poll a vote, 23 touches and 5 goals 4!

Remember that game. I was there.

It was that game that made me realise Nathan Buckley is basically the greatest player to ever play the game.

Can play LITERALLY anywhere on the ground, and play it well (except ruck).

He not only shut down Wayne Carey that day, but helped himself to about 30 possies.

Slightly off topic....

No free kicks for either side!??!

I was at the game too. Sat in the MCC members with a mate.

I remember I went expecting to get a flogging from a very good North Melbourne team.

Buckley had an awesome game and it was a game that really won over the Collingwood faithful who then began to realise just how good he was.

Sav Rocca had a blinder too kicking 8 on Mick Martyn. I recall these fellow Maggie supporters behind me going ape when Sav was kicking them and making some hilarious calls.

This is a bit like the I caught a fish this big story that grows in time.

Bucks played on carey once or twice. Not numerous times and caned him as suggested.

Fwiw If that stats shown are the correct stats then carey still had 6 marks and kicked 3 in a game were I believe we smashed them in the centre. Most CHFs these days would take those stats in a heat beat.

Bucks was very good in this game but Its the only time were I remember bucks doing pretty well on Carey. I think there may have been another game were bucks started on carey and Carey beat him so bucks was moved.

Bucks is the best pies player ive ever seen and a dead set champ of the game but anyone who thinks he was a better player than carey on the basis of this is ridicously biased or knows very little about the game. Carey is the best ive seen and by a fair way. There is only one player who could match him consistantly and that was Jakovich

I'm going to be the wet fish, sorry guys.

I can't remember when it was exactly but it would've been late 90's when we were just ok and North were heaps better. It was definitely an MCG game, on a saturday afternoon. We were going ok against North, maybe down a goal or two at three quarter time but Carey had been killing us all day so we put Buckley on him for the last quarter.

All I can say is Carey is the best player I've ever seen and Buckley couldn't get near him. Possibly three last quarter goals. I didn't want Buckley on him ever again for obvious reasons.

Carey later admitted he laughed when bux was put on him thinking he was gonna have a day out on him... t0ss bag.. Im pretty sure that day the roos were wearing their Orange strip.... Pies had no chance prior to the game but did smash them under the unshaw years.

People that are saying its being over-analysed are actually under-rating the performance.

We were absolutely shocking on 1996, Kangaroos ended up becoming the Premiers. Carey was the at the prime of his career, and one of the greatest players ever. Its the decade of forwards just casually kicking 7-10 goals a week. We beat the team that ends up romping it home in September.

Anyway, point is, to hold the best CHF in the game to 6 marks and 3 goals in that era is an unreal effort for a midfielder.

Bucks was actually playing at about 96kg in 1998. I remember hearing him talk about it. He jumped on the scale at the start of a match at VFL park and said "s***, 96kg hope I can still run". Then he got 40 touches against the Saints.
After that year he decided to take it down to 92kg before finishing at 88kg. Gerard Healy said looking at him on the first irish tour that he had gotten so big he should be playing CHF.
