Buckley, The King Of 50 Possession Games

What a great servant to our game, 3 times he's allowed opposition mids to gather 50+ possessions, or is it 4?

Can he get to 60 or 70?

In two of those game Collingwood won.

There are fair bigger problems than opposition players getting the ball eg; sloppy disposal and poor forward play

It is interesting that Mitchell had 54 disposals and is ranked 12th in metres gained. Kamdyn McIntosh had 19 disposals but gained 86 more metres.

Obviously this is only one statistic in isolation, but may be a starting point for understanding why Mitchell wasn't being targeted.

Someone has to get it out to outside players - but I imagine it's easier to nullify them than it is to nullify Mitchell

Bucks is doing a terrific job, should be allowed to see out his contract with out this sort of criticism

He really deserves an extension. Something that dwarfs the Buddy deal, maybe even something that will see him haul in Jock McHale.

Agreed. He is ranked 3rd in clearances (as well as feeding in general play) which does highlight this.

Perhaps teams are finding him difficult to nullify in a contest (or backing their own structure), and are not super concerned with his output in general play.

Deserves it. Don’t know what all the criticism is about TBH

If you honestly watch both games and think McIntosh was better than Mitchell then I suggest maybe you need to watch a few more games

1) I never said McIntosh was better
2) I highlighted a statistic and acknowledged it was in isolation
3) I suggested this may be a starting point

So how about you refrain from the derogatory comments if you can't comprehend posts.

Yeah i've been upbeat about Mason from the start, but tonight was horrible, but in saying that what do we do? He's been in out in out in out like his namesake, IMO he needs a good block of games, for him it's confidence.[/QUOTE]

I hope we go 0 and 5, to me getting rid of Buckley is worth every loss, and if he is sacked during the season it'll come with the added bonus of Eds head rolling beside his, like a 2 for 1 deal, don't get me wrong cause i love Ed, but he's been at the helm too long.
But there won't be any more Eddie sadface updates. :(

McIntosh is a flanker/wingman, not an inside mid.

Net vs Gross gains.
Bombing it forward does nothing thing if it’s turned over. If you give it to a free players 5m away, who in turn hits a leading forward, you’d take it

Ok, so Mitchell just racks up the highest possession game in the history of the AFL and you suggest it probably wasn't worth tagging him anyway because some middle of the road outside wingman got more metres gained in another game played in the same round a few days prior? So, what was your point again?

Mitchell also had 9 more uncontested possessions than McIntosh had total disposals. Dustin Martin is an inside mid and had 4 more metres gained from 22 less disposals.
Martin is explosive, and breaks tackles and the lines with run, or disposal. Mitchell is not that player. He gets uncontested football by spreading, and then makes sure we keep possession.

You're comparing apples with oranges.

Yes, but that difference may contribute to Mitchell's lack of accountable opponent.

Somewhere a coach is putting a value on a possession. They are comparing apples and oranges.
