I think i might be the first to create a negative thread on Buddy.

I just dont understand when Buddy marks the ball inside 50 he always wants to play on...i know he prefers his left etc, but he seems to get caught more times then not.

I just dont see why if he marks inside 50, just go for goal....least if he kicks it on the full or a behind the opposing team doesnt have the run out of the backline which is usally created from turnovers (like today). Who knows he may even kick a goal!!!!!!

And it seems to me our zone works better when we have time to set it up, if he kicks a point or a behind, use this time to set up our zone.

Now most people on bigfooty say u take the good with the bad with Franklin, but he isnt god and cant on everyone! I think its time for him to use his head to be honest.

I agree, he has said and has proven he is more comfortable when he plays on to kick at goal but he really needs to go back and have a set shot, he is very capable of kicking the goal but lately he seems to try to play on in most cases. Same with Roughead today. They need to be shown the video during the week and sort it out.

You beat me to it. I think he is useless when his in the middle as well. He tries to do things his skill level is incapable of doing and it turns over the play. Less f*cking around, just do it Buds!

He caused about three 12 point turnarounds by playing on. They would absorb the pressure, hit their targets...take it coast to coast and plonk it on Tredders' head.

He really has to just get in the habit of going back and having a set shot. That is how confidence will be built. Plus, it would be ridiculous for the sort of stuff that happened today to continue every other week for the remainder of his career. It could end up being like a Richo thing.

QFT.

Franklin's an undisciplined player who gets away with far more than he should due to his physical gifts. At times like these he can be very frustrating to watch.
Sometimes I wonder how are handling him down at Hawthorn, perhaps the coaching staff are afraid to give him a good yelling at when he earns it.

What a disgraceful thread ... i cannot believe ANYBODY is questioning this guy after last season...
Last season he took the same players on and won more often than not - maybe he's a little underdone like so many of our players with the pre-season he had, but you lot should be ashamed of yourselves.

At least the guy gets stopped having a go!

Pathetic :mad::thumbsdown:

Buddy needs to just go back and take his 10-15 set shots. The goals from play will also come, but i'd rather he just take his time....use up the clock...and get into a routine that will help him in the upcoming weeks.

He will kick 10 next week...all set shots too.

How is this a disgraceful thread? It's highlighting an issue which Franklin needs to address. His constant playing on cost us goals, which is why he needs to go back and take his time.

it seems to me that buddy isn't 100% fit or warmed up as he had a short pre season. He needs to line up for goal, not play on in hope to get a goal...

Do you know what's even more of a disgrace? You dare to provide construcitve critism about a player, and then someone like yourself jumps down your throat and calls you a disgrace. Poor form.

You seriously telling me Buddy playing on after marking 15 metres out on an angle and running straight into a couple of PA defenders is acceptable? It's a part of his game he needs to work on, learning when to go and when not to. I don't care if he cured cancer and single handedly eliminated poverty, he is not immune from constructive criticism.

Can we just put it down simply to no confidence with set shots inside 50? Rather than looking for other things to drop on him. Last year 90% of his inside 50 play ons would have been set shots

If i am going to criticise anyone today it would be the 'rough' looking bloke on the front of the footy record. Worst game I have seen him play.

That said Buddy needs to be a bit more sensible when he gets the ball within kicking range.

And if he kicks goals from playing on you'd be on your knees. He was trying to build momentum and give the boys a lift , it didn't work . Where was Roughie today? Franklin is a proven matchwinner and Coleman medallist who didn't have a great day today. There were probably 15 other guys who were worse than Buddy today. It is a disgrace to bag out one of the best players you are likely to see in your lifetime.

Nobody kicked it to Roughy. It all went to Franklin or to just nobody. All the OP is stating is that Buddy should've gone back and kicked it rather than playing on. It didn't work the first time he did it today, so he should've stopped it. Just accept the constructive criticism mate.

Buddy does need to go back and kick most of these as set shots IMO. That said if he can slip through once a game for a gimmee then great. But expect the opposition to be switched on to his play on trick. Today he got found out.

Buddy is a great player and at only 22 has alot to learn and improve on. His potential at Hawthorn shines as legendary, as long as he doesn't get too far ahead of himself and his efforts and body hold up.

For gods sake, no-one was bagging him, they were questioning his decision to play-on on a couple of occasions when the game was in the balance.

While I respect we are not a board that likes criticism of our players, points of view, last time I check could still be offered up for discussion. It seems to me that it's okay to be critical of young guys who have played probably no more than 10 games between them, but god forbid we should be critical of the coleman medalist - get a grip.

it might be okay once, but to play on three times and get caught 3 times, I think there is a problem, especially that one 2 meters out was frustating, I think he gets pumped up by the media for being this brillant player that no one can catch, that he thinks he can run around anyone anytime, his a foward and he should be lining up for a goal

Very well said. Thankyou!!

He did let us off the hook today. The ability to reassess your form/fitness/luck during a game is something that can set the greats appart.

Some guy called Bosk wrote the following.

Not sure but he may possibly be bagging Franklin. You are aware that Franklin is not the best set shot in the business. With the game in the balance there were many turnovers which resulted in Port goals. The whole team effort today was ordinary, not just Buddy playing on. And yes God forbid if you are critical of the Coleman medallist. I'm sure he is aware of his errors today and we don't need so called supporters casting negative light. He still managed to kick 3.
