I like Laidley, but how can you coach from interstate? I hope it goes well

If Russell Ebert can play for North Melbourne while living interstate, anything is possible.

I cant imagine flying someone back forth and putting them up in accomodation would be a cheap exercise, seems a strange outcome.

Perhaps he is being billeted with one of the families associated with the club, jut like we do with new players.

I can't see that being uncomfortable at all.

Otherwise, I doubt we are paying for accommodation.

Looking at the details of how much time he will be spending here, I am a lot more relaxed about the arrangement with Laidley.

The multiple roles of having pressure all over the ground sounds like they have taken notice of how disorganized we have been in the past as teams unravel our dated game plan. The way the roles are structered should improve our cohesion as a defensive and attacking unit. It basically says that everybody is responsible to defend and attack and you will be trained as such.

I am becoming a little more confident each day in Matty's ability to organize the coaching structure. I think Choco's strength was his downfall. He either over coached or under coached.

Hearing rumours that Pearce was confused about his role, Broadbent being locked out of meetings with the so called elite and this morning it talked about how Laidley may have been more happy with his role as a line coach rather than a Mr. fix-it.

The problem with that is that you had a lot of people running around the club unsure of their roles and their future. Matty seems to be a straight laced guy who will set clear boundaries not only in behaviour but gameplan and attitude.

Laidley is acting as more than a mentor. He being given specific responsibility of a line and this could have been the reason why he chose to stay. (I doubt that he will have much time to pursue his interests considering how much time he will be here and how much forward scouting he will be doing in Melbourne.)

Couldn't have a better result IMO.

Yeah I agree.

I like the idea that the forward coach now also has a say over how the ball is transitioned into the forward line not just how the forwards perform. That makes much more sense to me.

I also like the fact that the defence now has a control over how the rest of the team defends as well as that is a major part of any defensive strategy now days.

It will be really interesting to see how this plays out but I think it is a winning strategy.

I do wonder with our coaching roles if zones will be the normality of our playing style, defensively anyway. I guess every club does it, I just have to accept it :(

Worth noting that Rohde pointed out that all the assistant coaches spend 1-2 days/week in Melbourne as part of their role. So despite the nervous whinnying about Laidley being 'part-time' out of Alberton, this may not be such an issue. Certainly most modern workplaces can accommodate senior staff working off-site.

If Laidley is reviewing match footage he doesn't need to be at Alberton to do it.
