Re: Burnie (Shockers) Dockers

I'm sure given the chance all clubs would take as much money as Burnie take from their council. It's just that not all the councils are quite as generous.
I think the arrangement Burnie has with the council has been both misunderstood and misrepresented. Burnie Sports and events dont throw the Dockers an unlimited amount of money, they get an agreed amount each year to run the club. BS&E run all the bars and catering etc and retain all profits from doing this. BS&E also seek out and retain the income from sponsors because they have to get the money from somewhere. The Dockers board of directors act completely independently from BS&E just as the board of any other club would do. The Dockers do have some other opportunities to generate revenue but obviously most of it comes from BS&E. The opinions expressed by some on this forum that the council are tipping money into the club hand over fist is simply not true. Maybe it is a model that some other clubs could investigate.

Re: Burnie (Shockers) Dockers

If Laycock gets drafted to to GWS will he be able to play with the DOckers in 2011 as GWS don't join the AFL until 2012. Also How is Baldy looking on the track? Heard That Nick m , Darren and Kade have been the best on the track thus far.

Re: Burnie (Shockers) Dockers

My god it’s been quiet on here of late! Just thought i would let you all know I’m back from holidays... Did you all miss me?????
I see the Shocker Dockers have gained the services of (Hard Man) Craig Stretton. Gee the year off in the DFA would have done him the world of good I would have thought, it would have really prepared him well for State League football!!!!

Welcolm back mick. Just take it easy on the burnie boys. Buggsy has quit his post and planty well he went clean off a week back. Is this the stretton that won the burnie gift a couple of years back

Re: Burnie (Shockers) Dockers

Reported in the Advocate today that the Dockers have signed Sam Whish-Wilson from Devonport but the biggest bombshell reported was that Devonport could be kicked out of
the TSL within 15 days if they cannot prove to AFL Tas that they are not insolvent.
Thats the last thing this league needs. I hope their problems can be sorted out. The Coast needs two teams in this league.

Geez, How could this happen within 2 years of joining the TSL? They played off in the GF just 3 months ago! Their crowds weren't that bad were they? Or did something else happen up their with the finances? I hope they sort it out ASAP.

Re: Burnie (Shockers) Dockers

Great to be back guys, I hope I don't upset any of those Southern guys, poor old Madmug got me banned for a week, I might need to get him a box of tissues next time I run into him!:)
On a more serious note, young Wish-Wilson is a great signature for the Dockers, get a couple of more big names and the poor southerners might be crying about a little bit more than my light hearted comments!!

Go Dockers 2011:thumbsu:

Whish - more clubs than Greg Norman!

Relying on volunteers to run the show doesn't and hasn't worked for them.

What utter rot that comment is. The situation they are in is because of the exuberant amount of money they have paid out in the past for both coaches and players. When the football club appointed Peter Knights the club was guaranteed repeat guaranteed assistance to help fund this appointment. This never eventuated and this project cost the club close to 180k. This was the start of the trouble and the club has never been able to trade out of. Yes they have to take responsibility for the debt they are staring at but the volunteers you spoke about have given everything and more to the club. Them going back to the SWL 2 years ago ripped the heart and soul out of the place. They lost a lot of people. A lot of good people. If anyone can stand up and say that clubs are going to grow and prosper without a reserve side then they are mistaken. The amount of chopping and changing that has occured over the last 2 years has caused many football followers to just walk away from the game. Devonport has had more than most. As i have stated the club needs to take responsibility for the situation they are in but so to does the enviroment that forced them into the situation that looks bleaker by the day.

Couldn’t agree more North Wester. Duff has obviously had Wiggo chewing his ear off about the "volunteers" running the show at Devonport. What the f*** would Duff know about what going on at Devonport, please.... Anyway the Devonport council should just bail them out just like the Burnie council did with the Docker Shockers all those times!!!!

Re: Burnie (Shockers) Dockers

I have not been on for a while what happened to planty has he gone from big footy forum.. cant find any of his posts they are all gone

Re: Burnie (Shockers) Dockers

Word has it the Docker Shockers are on the March North boys!!!!! With the signings of Laycock (Has he trained yet cause he was looking rather LARGE when I seen him the other day!!!) Craig Stretton (Has had both ankles fused and moves like it), Scott Matheson (Has 1 wooden leg), Rohan Baldock (The bloke who claims he is an absolute gun - time will tell with this one!!!!), Templeton (Thinks he is a gun as well) and Wish - Wilson (Who has besser bricks for feet). I am so looking forward to the year starting because we are off to the promise land this year!!!!! Go Shockers!!!!!

Never read a bigger load of BS in all my life mightymick. I hope bagging out all these players make you feel better about what you achieved in your hay day

Re: Burnie (Shockers) Dockers

I must say I do expect bigger and better things for the dockers this year ...the new players should lift them to play finals this year ... but they still stuck with losers in charge.

Re: Burnie (Shockers) Dockers

young shannon mc dougall seems to be ripping it up at training in the past few weeks. will be a very good colts player this year, pushing for seniors position.
zach hislop, brody mihocek and robbie fox are all looking fit as a fiddle this year. brody mihocek is certain afl material. top ten pick. superstar.
inrerestingly ben dunn has retired from football, big lose for the burnie dockers; directly related to the shocking coaches that un18s had last year. macca and chook.

I read this rubbish every year from northern clubs, unless this is a tongue in cheek comment;) I suspect Tigerman is either the kids father/mother or deluded. Never seen the kid play but the list of NW coastal superstars is frightening, the list of NW coast superstars drafted is tiny! Mihocek maybe a vewry good junior player coming through and even play well at TSL level but top 10 draft pick:confused: How about cooling the excessive praise on this young guy and letting him get a kick, he may well be good enough to be drafted but surely so are 4000 other Mihocek's around the country. Too much pressure on NW coast on these kids to be next big thing. Come play at HFC where you learn the game and get treated equally without massive pressure Zach, you may still get drafted like the 2 last season:thumbsu:

I'm guessing you're a player at Hobart, DOSA. How is Toddy Kelly settling in up there this year?

Mav Weller and Luke Russel ...........

Re: Burnie (Shockers) Dockers

DOSACHOKER, you clearly have no life! Brody mihocek, will be the biggest and best thing to come out of TSL! Chris Meale looks to sign on up at burnie this year, just to add already impressive list. you better check yourself before you wreck yourself, how about you come up to the NW were we play the hardest footy, you boys play weak football down there.
