Burnside on 3AW

I have been reading these pages for a while now and just finally decided to join up now this saga chapter is over. I can not agree with you more. As an Essendon supporter, I am not satisfied with the direction hird has taken on this. The whole time he put himself before anyone and carried on like he was a little spoilt child who was above and better than everyone else. Never apologised publically nor admitted his actions were wrong or he instigated it. Pathetic coward like behaviour. Culture from the senior figure within the club like this is bad and not welcomed. Really they should look beyond him as he is trouble.
Refreshing to see a sensible Essendon supporter for a change.

Burnside did not answer the question on the doctor's letter. Nor did he answer the question on whether any players raised concerns with Hird. Nor did he explain in what context the texts show innocence. No meaningful answers at all.

And his initial argument that Hird was charged with "conduct unbecoming", and that conduct is "doing something", so he can't be guilty of that if he is accused of failing to do something !!!

The signal operator failed to signal to the oncoming train that there was a freight train already on the line.

Uhuh.

Unbelievable - for months James has been saying that when the truth comes out he will be cleared.

Now he has his lawyer saying that if they had of gone to court he would have been cleared.

Then you have people saying... "I hope James gets to tell his side of the story"

Whats bloody stopping him? He has media outside his door

I'm going to keep re-quoting this!

oh goodness.

Burnside argued how can Hird be charged for "conduct" unbecoming when CONDUCT means ACTION BUT all the allegations from the AFL against Hird was that he didn't do things (e.g. monitor the program, ensure everything was legal). How can non-action be bad??

Hilarious!

Oh, and he thought they were Vitamins! Oh yeah I forgot to take my daily vitamin AOD and Thymosin and amino acids ;)

you made an incorrect assumption that Birnside believed everything Hird says. If anyone should be able to look up a person on meeting and interviewing them, it would be an advocate at the bar with thirty years experience.

I reckon you could defend your client even though you may not believe much of his defence without coming across like you've been sucked in by him like Burnside comes across in this interview and the one with SEN this morning. He clearly avoids the question of Reid's letter and the txt messages.

hird heroic my ass

Burnside QC: "James, my son, you have been very brave throughout this horrific persecution.
So very, very brave. If you were to accept sanction and mouth a mumbled apology to
end this most-trying of matters for the good of your great club and the game
people are going to hail you as a hero. They know you did nothing wrong.
The gesture on your part would be seen as a great personal sacrifice and would
only add to your fine reputation."

Hirdy: "You know Julian, you're quite right, for the good of the game and a great love of my
club and its players and supporters you say. I'll do it."

There is an adage that you never buy from a rich salesman or hire a poor lawyer. Little proves the first part to be true and Burnside the second

Trolls on football forum cast judgement on the integrity of Julian Burnside.

Welcome to the interwebz!
Only if he makes a judgement on something he knows bugger all about. Some of the stuff Burnside said was laughable.

Another "expert" Dr Andrew Garnham made himself look a dill the other day.

My advice to experts is don't take money from Essendon if you want to keep your reps intact. :thumbsu:

I'm happy for people to pot the club etc, but when they to after the spotless integrity of somebody like Burnside, they're overreaching. Makes their motivations pretty clear.

The great thing about lawyers is that they tend to develop a clientelle profile. If you're happy to have Hird bracketed with Rose Porteous and Alan Bond then more luck to you. By the way, you do know that he has acted against 'Spotless' don't you?

Lawyers are not paid for their integrity. They are paid to present the best case they can on behalf of their clients. In this instance the case he is presenting in the media is pretty weak.

1. The AFL should have saved him from himself.
2. The real issue here is the AFL leaking, not the actual charges.
3. James has had a tough time of things
4. Because he failed to act he can not be accused of doing something bad.
