I think the club saying he'll be ready for the Sydney game is optimistic. We really won't know much until the end of this week at the earliest. The boot only came off this morning. Think positive thoughts.
The thing with Jacko is when he does comes back he seems to go right back to the form pre-injury. I don't think we can beat Sydney without him.

WTF? If true there's no way he'll stay.
That was a joke Ford made up when asked if we should get Wayne Carey to have a chat with Butch.

Can't hurt but don't expect Boaky to invite Butch over for dinner any time soon because Wayne Carey shagged his skipper's missus and you never know what he might teach Butcher*. ;)

Not sure how welcome Wayne is at Port - wasn't there an incident with Matty Primus's missus when she was still single?

*Clarification added for those who take message board comments super-literally. :p

Have to agree fully that Butcher just hasn't earned a recall or applied himself in a way that demands him to be picked. Consistent effort and form should be rewarded as Ken is going about things. It doesn't matter how tall he is or what structural advantages he may bring, the fact is that a position most definitely would've been made for him if he was up to it, but he isn't even after what 5 years on list.

I don't care if it is butcher, shaw or Harvey. The point is still the same.

We have good smalls and most KP spots covered but we lack one tall forward. Given talls take longer to develop we need to start ASAP in grooming one.

I believe Butch has a confidence issue, and I should know because I crashed and burnt at the local disco plenty of times in my youth, lol (or the `olden days ' for many of the younger members of the site ), who probably think anything that happened prior to 1985 was `ancient ' history, and `ABBA' only played for the Maggies after giving up his music career.

Anyway back to the serious stuff and Butch, an old saying is a picture can tell a thousand words, and I thought he looked a tad uncomfortable, and not too sure when to come forward and shake Dom Cassisi's hand on the news the other night, he hung back and waited until virtually the last moment and then finally reached around to pat Dom on the shoulder.

Just an observation on my part, and possibly about the same quality as that of the paid `experts' on all things we had at Alberton not that long ago, who it could be argued didn't achieve much at all with their particular version of `voodoo, ' when the club was in serious danger of disappearing around the S bend.

Hopefully we will get some decent weather for the magoo's showdown, Butch can have a day out, kick a bag, get some much needed confidence in his own ability, and force Ken and the match committee to sit up and take notice.

I doubt there is a genuine Port supporter anywhere who doesn't want that to happen!

Essendon goalkicking champion Matthew Lloyd could save Port Adelaide forward John Butcher’s career.
PORT Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley is famous for noting how picking key forward John Butcher in AFL company is like stepping out on a twig.

He also is true to his word in not bringing Butcher back to his Power line-up — despite the clear need for another key forward — unless he has a true form line.More ...

So if Schulz and Westhoff go down do we replace them with the in form Hitchock, Neade or Mitchell?

I'd take a risk on Shaw. Worst comes to worst, at least throw him in the deep end to see what he's got at AFL. We've seen what Butch does.

Good grief, what have I done?

Now bare with me because this is semi serious semi kidding.

Instead of doing Kicking for chicken thing we do pre game, I reckon we should scrap that and at half time have a Kicking for Butch. This activity would be occurring every game from now on the butcher is not playing. The activity involves butcher lining up from 50 and having to kick the goal while fans do there best job to try and make him miss. Not only will this help him deal with the "oh my god I am going to stuff up" feeling I think he gets, it will give him some experience about what it may feel like to kick a goal under a lot of pressure

:p

This is pretty close believe it or not
Remember Cloke came up with wearing earphones during kicking practice with recordings of everyone booing and jeering him
Reverse psychology folks
Also give him a magnesium supplement which will help steady nerves
( on a side note I used to watch Peter Burgoyne blinking a lot after kicking a goal and always wanted to send him some magnesium which rectifies facial ticks and blinking etc
Extreme exercise ( and Meth use incidentally) depletes magnesium
Magnesium is for the neuro-muscular junction ie where the nerve meets the muscle)

Happens when we aren't all on the same page...mind you I saw the humour, once explained ;)

I thought it was an obvious connection ... mind you I see Jame Gumb in the AAMI ads. ;)

Also throws up the option of Butch leaving to go to the Bulldogs anybody seen this before or heard of it?

We have thrown S Gray into the deep end and you cant tell me Butch or Shaw couldnt have done as much if not more then Gray has done in his many appearances...

I still can't understand why Ken is trying to turn S Gray into a small forward, when the bulk of his SANFL appearances has seen him play as a centre/rover type.
