I think we would be incredibly lucky to receive a 2nd rounder for Butcher, unless he shows a hot streak of form - and that doesn't look likely.

I think you'll find if any club is interested in him they tell him to enter the draft once his contract has expired with us. He'd have zero trade value unfortunately.

I personally think JB is untradable i dont know of ant club that could afford to take him on board for anything less than nothing. Not trying to be insulting but there has to be better prospects out there.
I cant stand talking like this about a Port player but AFL is cruel and making valued judgements is absolutely necessary to stay with it!

Ok, Give me some sort of time line (i am working with you) on when you expect this all to turn around. If you sit on the fence year after year it can only end up with splinters at best or a very sore butt. Can you help me out and at least narrow it down to 015/16/17/18. You have been calling it so just wondering when i should get on.:)

If I could give a time line on when it will click for Butcher, if ever, I'd be better served focusing my efforts on lottery numbers.

It's not a matter of sitting on the fence for me, I think he has the tools to succeed. He's had an injury interrupted past and he still has some major deficiencies in his game although his biggest issue at the moment is mental IMO. He still has time and youth on his side but that time is limited. He should be persisted with for a while yet.

WHAT IN THE BLAZES HAS HAPPENED!
Not the big kid any more
Fitness issues leading to kicks taken when not settled
Bigger expectations of performance

Has next to no worth as a trade right now. Keep him, he can't get any lower next year. It might be disrespectful to the efforts of Tredders and other club personal, but we should sound out Wayne Carey, do whatever we can to extract his potential. We still have a SANFL finals campaign which I'd like to win and Butch is still a part of that side.

Also, set shot kicking is not like field kicking. That is the problem, people are saying he's a good field kick so why can't he set shot? Because they are different. It is very poor that after say 3 years neither Butch or anyone at the club has been able to improve his set shots, but his other attributes seem to be going backwards. I would love to know what Ken has to say to him when Ken has meetings with all the players.

No need to further embarrass yourself . Shaw and Harvey are developing nicely.

As for Butcher, well we have 3 options:

1. Trade for pick 40-50
2. Persist and de-list in 2015
3. Try him as 3rd tall defender depth

Shaw has shown a bit but is totally untried at AFL level and there are rumours that he's a flight risk. Harvey is a couple of preseasons away at least.

Trading Butcher would be a waste because we'd get no value. We'd be better off hanging onto him for a year incase we have disastrous injuries or he comes good. For pick 40-50 odd we may as well delist.

FFS Forza if you ever decide to go into politics i promise to cross the border and vote for you. Read your own post back and note that you covered all bases and final outcomes. Not taken the P++S out of you in this one, genuine quality. I like it:)

I don't think the tough love approach from the club worked for his confidence. In hindsight there were multiple times where he could have been selected but didn't. Would be very interesting how it would have turned out trying the "build his confidence" approach.

Unfortunately, my thoughts prior to today's have been justified.

In the immediate short term, you must fear for his mental health. I can potentially see him chucking in the towel altogether. To be honest, I don't know if I'd have the courage continually push myself to get into a position where I become vulnerable and be made a mockery of. And yes, you could argue that's what you get paid $250k a year to do. But that's looking like a short term wage and you can never put a price alongside personal pride.

The reality is he will be playing for the club for the rest of the season. And while he's still wearing a Port guernsey, I'll be supporting the boy through thick and thin. Crikey, he may well be a PAFC premiership player this year and those boys in particular are always welcomed through Alberton's golden gates.

And I'll say it again, while he continues to don the PAFC jumper, I hope he proves me wrong.

Well said.

I really hoped Butch would have a cracker today - as I think we all did. If he had Shaw's stats from the game I think he would be getting an AFL call up.

What I think was disappointing was not that terrible kick today but that he didn't impose himself today. Hinkley said he was looking at his forwards for form and was clearly asking for anything from Butcher to allow him to pick him. He didn't stand up as the forward line general, he didn't compete his butt off, run for everything until he was knackered, didn't push back or deep.

He is a good lad who has had a terrible run and deserves good luck. I am no longer sure PAFC is the right place for him and a trade for a pick in the 50-70 may be the best thing for him to get out of Adelaide and into an environment he can rebuild from.

Either way I wish him all the best and still really hope he makes it for PAFC.

Get that ****en hypnosist who did a number on Chad Ollie and Flynn to do a number on Butcher's head so that he relaxs when he has a set shot for goal.

Ken says you get what you deserve Well the club is getting **** all improvement in Butcher because they keep coming up with excuses for him. There are plenty of people who want to and can help him but the club is protecting him.

If we keep him then he has to have 20,000 shots on goal practice in the pre season and stuff the sports science department saying that will tire him out and affect his fitness. If he wants to keep his $250k pay packet he has to get off his backside and do a massive amount of extra work ie kicking for goal and fixing up his head with both a hypnosist and a sports shrink.
We'll said
