Can someone tell me how Byron played in the Adelaide Derby Wizza Cup match and if possible give me some stats?

I hope he did'nt touch the bloody ball!

Bagged 3 goals and displayed his usual ferocious attack on the ball and man.

Dunno his exact stats and didnt see the whole game, but from the bits that i saw, he looked in the best shape i can remember seeing him in at this time of year and was very lively.

* gulp * :(

He went to a side that should have finished 2nd last year.

Did you think that he wasn't going to play well in any side.

HE WAS GOING ANYWAY, FOR NOTHING at the end of this year!

Not as if we did a pikey.

Played in much the same way he did in many games last year. Unsighted in the first quarter and a fair bit of the second but then "bobbed up" to kick 2 quickly. Had a better second half and kicked another goal and his attack on opponents was fantastic-that's what we'll miss more than his goal kicking. Was criticised heavily by Walls for leading his opponent upfield and then dropping back quickly looking for the easy kick and goal. I know a lot of us don't like Walls but I think he's spot on here as that's exactly what Byron did with us the last coupla years and is why he seemed so inconsistent and would "disappear" for long periods of the game. He could be under instructions to do this of course but I doubt it as he's so much more effective when he involves himself in the action. Walls called him a "lurker" and said it in a way that indicated he thought it was the lowest of the low.

Perhaps Carey and Riccuto can target Pickett in the first SA derby. Since Pickett is no longer with us, it will be interesting to see him flattened.

RE-BYRON

BYRON STALKED OPPONENTS KICKED
3 GOALS BUT WASNT AN INFLUENCE AT ALL.
LOOKED SUPER FIT WHICH MAY LEAD TO MIDFIELD
EXPERIMENT AT SOME STAGE.ALWAYS SURPRISED
PAGAN DIDNT USE HIM THIS WAY.
STILL SAD TO SEE HIM IN OTHER COLORS
BUT THERE WOULD BE NO L.BROWN OTHERWISE
A GOOD TEN YEAR PLAYER I BELIEVE.
HOPE HE GOES WELL EXCEPT AGAINST US

OVER + OUT
DIGBY

How about Pickett targets Carey, would prefer to see Carey knocked out personally.. then Ricciuto can target Pickett and all will be happy:)

Go Roos

For fu*ksake, whats with the agro towards Pickett??!! Why would you wanna see him get knocked out?

When tuned in and attacking the ball he was a joy to behold and I was sorry as hell to see him go (the fact that he might have gone anyway and we got Brown in the exchange makes it a little easier to bear) but you can hardly blame the guy for wanting to be closer to his wife and kids...

Anyway, Pickett has a great sense of what is going on around him. I expect anyone that targets him to end up going off on a stretcher.

I wish him well, and hope he has a great year. He's one of my all time Faves.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

i'm with you Davo01.
one of my favourite players. i am really going to miss him this year..
i tend to agree thawith the perception that he went missing on occasion last season but, he was great to watch when in full flight.
i could not believe the way walls described him on the telly.. referring to him as if he were a common garden type lurker of the justin murphy variety

People.
Look on the bright side ...... this way we had about 5 years out of pickett, and now we will see the best of Brown...so we will get use out of both .
Thats the way i look at it :)
Cheers
Skarks.

I was not meaning to be critical of Byron. I understand the argument that "he was going to leave sooner or later" - he was bloody inconsistent that's for sure - just sad to see him go that's all - and I am a big wrap for the Anvil!

Robert Walls is an absolute tool if he compared that blue boy hack Justin Murphy with Byron - I have never seen Murphy burst a game wide open!

Heard Choppy interviewed over here shortly after he was traded.

He said that he was surprised that he was traded and prior to that he thought he would stay with North for one more year because he owed it to the club for giving him a chance to play AFL footy.

However, had he stayed he would have asked to be traded back to a SA club at the end of this season........

I can't see the logic but that is what he said.

Choppy was an exciting player to watch as we all know he could do the hard stuff , be sensationaly skillful and hard at the man.

It seems though he was determined to leave in any case.....The move was probably hastened by the Clubs finanical predicament as well.

I was sorry to see him go but I thought it was a smart, proactive trade. For a guy who was going probably going to leave in 12 months we saw the oportuity to recruit a 20yo key position player who had already racked up 60odd games.
However I still love Choppy and hope he goes well at PA. Will probably end up watching most Port games this year because of him.
Walls should have a think back to his career before bagging Choppy. Dirty sniping bastard.

His 2001 season was okay, but his 2002 season was very poor - there were only 2 games where he stood out (7 goals vs the Dogs and the round 21 match vs Hawthorn). Another poor season and his trade value may have dropped - although on the other hand, if both Adelaide clubs were interested, then there may have been an auction for his services.

I think the club did the right thing - Choppy will be great for Port (he looks in his best shape for years), but Brown as a key position player will be vital for us. In the short term, it'll be a win-win for Port and the Roos. I'm not sure who Freo picked up with the draft pick they got, but a player picked up with a top 20 selection has a good chance of getting a decent career going.
