Cal Twomey has written an article about how good he is at predicting the draft on the afl website.

Every single article is usually attributed to a specific journalist or even staff writers but this one isn’t. It goes into an insane amount of historical detail that only Cal himself would know. This is almost beyond Hamish McLachlan editing his own Wikipedia page levels, this is genuinely absurd.

I’m not even going to lie, it makes the draft really ****ing boring.

Why bother watching to find out who gets taken when you can just read his phantom and you know who’s going where in the top 10.

Of course he knows who clubs are going to take. He had inside knowledge and contacts at all the clubs and speaks in length to all the draftees. It’s not impressive, it’s literally his job.

That is like saying BT is a better commentator than Hudson because BT played at the top level and Hudson didn't.

Spotting talent is different than being a player, they require different skills.

Real talent isnt getting the top 10 phantom draft right when you get it all straight from the clubs/AFL.

Real talent is backing your power rankings and reflecting if you got them right several years later. Was your ranking better at identifying talent than the clubs?

They would have variations for every player they could have conceivably drafted at either pick. Remember when Essendon's "we've just drafted Shaun Atley" video was accidentally posted? Same thing I would think.

Seems like a waste of a good jumper if you get it wrong. Lots of variations possible.

I like to imagine they have an army of grannies out the back armed with an iron to transfer the numbers to each jumper as the pick is read out. "Pick 8, Saints, Travaglia, got it Doris? Hurry up, he's almost at the stage!"

People's thoughts on the quality of the draft? In contrast to previous years where we were well acquainted with Nick Daicos and Harley Reid long before the day, I don't really recall hearing anything about Richmond's first pick prior.

One of my ITK contacts at AFL house have told me that after the rookie draft was all wrapped up Cal went out on the town and pulled a few “don’t you know who I am’s” and got rejected by a couple of establishments
