swannies, is his field kicking normally that good? That pass to Embley was as gem. He didnt have many, but they were mostly pretty good.

I can answer that.

Yes, it is that good. What you saw was the implementation of John Dimmer's game plan in that kick. Souths routinely overlook the man leading toward the ball carrier for the bloke running in behind the defence into open space.

Very smart ball user.

I'd actually say his field kicking is the bigger strength atm, wouldn't you? I just don't like his ball drop when kicking for goals, it's either hit or miss, drops it from a bit too high, I reckon. We need Dimmer to come down at the breaks and "calm" him, like he did against Subi.

McNamara, Wilkes, Fletcher, Wirrpunda, Hunter, Seaby, Hansen and Staker all potentially delisted, retired or traded. Add to that the rumours of Schofield and Spangher being homesick = a lot of free spots on the list. Luckily our rookies are pushing for spots every week.

Uh oh, someone put Wally on suicide watch

Yeah, in some ways I see him being similar to Lynch. Beautiful by foot across the field, bit shakey in front of the sticks. A quiet word normally works though, doesnt need to be from JD. Just a senior player, Belly has been in his ear after he's sprayed a few and he's turned it around.

The big difference between the two is that Wilson knows where to lead.

H eleads up the ground too instead of wide which is good

My first look at the guys live and my first thought was another Lynch but with a footy brain. His field kicking was actually more impressive than his goals for me.

Wilson will do good things for our structure if he proves a competent FF.

In the forward line, it frees Kennedy to CHF and allows McKinley to become a back-up marking option at FP away from the attention of the opposition's number 1 defender.

It also allows Brown to go back to CHB where he generates run and Mackenzie to take the third tall, which I think is preferable at this stage of his career.

Good set up IMO.

where does notte fit into all this?

Geez i think this is the first time ever we've ever had a plethora of potential gun hulk forwards

It leaves Notte hitting the gym still and eating more steaks!

I think Notte will be in the WAFL for another year. 2011 may be his time, WAFL form permitting.

It's not like we're desperate for him ATM. It's also a plus that when he eventually comes in, he'll be a mature player, not a 18 year old rookie still coming to grips with AFL.

As others have noted, the role Lynch will play is also a tricky one. IMO it is now clear that Lynch is not a solid FF option, but if Wilson is established in the position it's one less string to his bow.

He still has the ability to play as a monster midfielder, at HF kicking it into the 50 and as a back-up ruckman, but once Cox and NicNat are up and running there will be an argument we would be better off having another genuine mid on the bench instead of Lynch.

Impossible to say that. Who knows what will happen in the future. He's played one game for christs sake.

If he keeps trying to take those leading marks on his chest he won't even be a Lynch, stop gap. This is where Notte, oh where for art thou, has him by the length of the stretch and then some, he can take a contested mark and marks out in the hands. You can mark on the chest at WAFL level, come and watch Hansen do it every week, but not the next level up.

Dissappointed Swannies, thought you'd seen enough of him to realise he takes the majority of his grabs in the "Dukes"

Marking on the chest, in Wilson's case, was more of a confidence thing, it was his first game after all.

Given more game time, and more games you'll all see the strength in his hands. You noticed Dimmer's words in regards to his kicking, he responded, no doubt marking the ball out in front would have been mentioned to him during the week and you'll see the improvement. *

* Basing this on the assumption that West Coast coaches can coach*

That's a big assumption, with our forwards. What I saw Dimmer do with Head and Wilson, as in give specific instructions as to how and where to kick, I actually wonder if that goes on at the AFL level.

Most of my watching Wilson was as a defender, so I'll take your word for it that he'll take them out in the hands. Lake will be a fair test for him this week?

I doubt they'll play lake on him, suggest Kennedy will get the best defender, but yes if that happpens to be the case it would be a fair test for any forward in their 2nd game.

That said, I think Willo will keep whoever he plays on honest the other way while chipping in with a few smart leads. Im thinking he'll kick another couple.

That he will!:thumbsu: I can't remember the last time Hansen (love him at Swans though :thumbsu:) took a bloke up on the lead but doubled back on to the ball before the defender!

Lynch doesnt stick the dukes out because he has poor eyesight not co ordination. His poor eye sight was the reason he slipped into the rookie draft. Otherwise he was a top 30 certainty. I mean look at his athleicism. Lynch might be blind but the Eagles recruiters werent
