Is this what we get after the Baker incident? The umpiring in the Carlton-Brisbane game was confusing, appallingly inconsistent and was only overshadowed by some of the epic skill failures from the players during the first half.

Watching the Hawthorn-Dogs match tonight and again I am completely mystified by the decisions.

Has this all gone too far? Has the game really called for this level policing? Can we hope for any kind of consistency with these ridiculous new guidelines handed down by Geischen?

Destroying the game imo.

then vosso watches lake smack buddy in the guts after a goal from 5m and does nothing. couldnt see it again?

Geischen - worst AFL coach in history. What did they think was going to happen when he took charge of the maggots??

I smell a rat.

Hawks versus Bulldogs

no 360 degree turns?

unrealistic leap?

Lake punches Buudy in the guts and no action?

Buddy gets 50 meters against him after the Bulldog player move off his line and was about 10 meters away?

this was either blatent bias or cheating. these umpires should get three weeks rest..

and Gieshen sacked...

enough is enough...

Player tackled and does a 360 rotation while being tackled it's holding the ball. Check Laws of the Game

unrealistic leap?
When a player takes another player out of a marking contest because his attempt was unrealistic. A realistic attempt is usually defined as getting your hands on the footy or near enough. Not jumping on someone and being miles off

It's not Soccer. Harden up

Buddy gets 50 meters against him after the Bulldog player move off his line Buddy went forward over his mark. He's aloud to follow the bulldog player by going down his own line (So side to side) but can't go forward. Was a pretty blatant 50, surprised your questioning this really.

Cheating? You're ****ed in the head.

Anything else you want cleared up?

i would be interested in others thoughts in your stupid comments as you are clearly a true w***er..or perhaps Geishan's son?

Hodge didnt do a full 360 turn and was still in control of the ball giving it off to an option something we see every week by players such as Ablett and Judd. Fact.

You must be the only person in Australia who thought Osborne's marking attempt was not legitimate w***er. He nearly took the mark going for the back for the ball as the commentators said, a ridiculous, stupid decision. He did not touch another player and as usual showed guts to put himself up for that mark. Play on and goal to Guerra was the correct decision.

If Franklin had of punched Lake no doubt he would have got at least one week or at least another kick. Not talking about being hard as its weak shit that Baker found out so no consistency at all from the MRP as Pavlich may tell you.

Franklin was at least 15 meters from the Bulldogs player and he did in fact cross right over sideways and should have been play on and perhaps Franklin was suprised as well all were that it wasnt play on as so blatent..

yes cheating knob...OR ****ed umpiring and clear to most intelligent people who know the game...

i would be interested in other fans comments here to this w***ers assessment...

Will give you the 360 degree turn and the unrealistic attempt (got a hand to it), but can't give you the others. Buddy milked it and the cow was empty. Buddy was closer than you think but then the bulldog did run off his line.

I would have thought if you had a beef, it would be the Luke Hodge "demonstrative behaviour" 50 metre penalty.

I'm not an umpire, but having watched how these guys operate on this board I would suggest that if you want a decent conversation on the umpire board, I'd drop the w***er (poster) accusations and cheating (umpire)accusations. The umpires are pretty ordinary at times but cheating is a fair stratch.

Before you go on to embarrass yourself further..

Have you ever read the rule book?

I have
which makes me ask
when a player pinged for holding the ball or something, is told to give the ball to the person who earnt the free kick, and he throws the ball back, why isn't this a 50 meter penalty under accordance of rule 18.1(g)

Common sense

Common sense

Common sense apparently didn't allow you to discern the difference between 360 degrees and the 180 degrees that actually occurred. Nor for that matter did it stop you defending the Osborne marking attempt as unrealistic (surely you haven't seen it given your comment). Unfortunately, it also didn't seem to help the umpires for those two appalling umpiring decisions either.

Would have thought the ball isn't in play at that point, so incorrect disposal can't apply?

But it's in the rule book, should be a 50m penalty

Its also in the rule book that a backman cannot rush a behind. I bet we will NEVER EVER see a backman penalised for this infringement ever again though.

Our suburban umpires have been pointedly advised by our coach that if we try and umpire like the AFL guys then we will be dropped. Their interpretations show no understanding of the spirit of the game...btw I have tried and tried but just cannot find the rule covering demonstrative body language being illegal?????

Geesh is a joke and must go

So let me see if I got this right, you speak up against BAD umpiring decisions and you get fined. You say nothing in response to BAD umpiring decisions and you STILL get fined.

Pff, Geischen has got to go, because the umpires appear to be unaccountable.

Yeah I do feel sorry for Knighta.

I am surveying our perceptions of umpires, let me know what you think - it takes 3 minutes

Would very much appreciate you taking a few minutes to complete this voluntary survey (link below). Rest assured your answers will remain completely anonymous.

as far as i can tell the Laws of the game dont mention anything about 360 degrees... but thats irrelevant as hodge wasnt spun 360 degrees...

15.2.3
15.2.4
Holding the Football — Prior Opportunity/No Prior Opportunity
Where the field Umpire is satisfied that a Player in possession of the football: (a) has had a prior opportunity to dispose of the football, the
field Umpire shall award a Free Kick against that Player if the Player does not Kick or Handball the football immediately when he or she is Correctly Tackled; or
(b) has not had a prior opportunity to dispose of the football, the field Umpire shall award a Free Kick against that Player if, upon being Correctly Tackled, the Player does not Correctly Dispose or attempt to Correctly Dispose of the football after being given a reasonable opportunity to do so.
(c) Except in the instance of a poor bounce or throw, a Player who takes possession of the football while contesting a bounce or throw by a field Umpire or a boundary throw in, shall be regarded as having had prior opportunity.

Geoff Geichen should be the first one sacked not because he is not doing a suitable job, it is because he thinks the umpires are, and trys to prove it in the media. I think he fails big time, but that would only set an example, and the umpires would probably strike to get him re-instated.

It really is pathetic that players cannot show their frustrations anymore. I have seen a few where they are clearly upset at their own actions but the thinned skinned ones still give the 50mtr penalty.

If umpires cannot be criticised, then they will never get the feedback they require to improve their performance. I assume the only feedback they get is from Geish who's ongoing employment depends on them not being seeen as performing badly, so he is never going to admit it. What a stupid system.

I don't have a problem (within reason) with a player letting off steam because he kicked the ball out on the full - or kicked a behind instead of a goal in a tight match.

I do have a problem when he berates the umpire because he kicked the ball out on the full or kicked that behind.

As for providing feedback to umpires, that's the role of the umpiring coaches and not the public to bundle up a tirade of abuse and loosely call that "feedback"! 50m penalties might seem harsh for verbal abuse by players but the problem is there's a drop-off rate of something like 25% minimum of first year umpires. Something has to be done to stop this trend otherwise there just won't be umpires in 10 years time. You don't get this in cricket or tennis - why should you cop it in footy?
