Can we make a Profit in 2005?

With a new CEO, a possibility of a new president and the club making huge changes in the football department for 2005 is it possible for us to make a profit next year.

Unlikely, but very dependent on what happens on field, and what sort of money moving happens this year and next year.

Even *if* we are saving $500K with players salaries by coming in under 2004 TPP amount, and even *if* we are saving another $300K from the football department (fewer assistants/player management), we would need to come up with about another $1.7M from increased sponsorship, membership and match reciepts. (Note - $500/300K amounts listed above are assumptions based entirely on what I'd consider reasonable movements in player/coach salary changes)

That would mean probably another 20-30 sponsors (assuming they come on board for cash amounts of $300K downwards to $5K) to get close to $1.7M. Based on past sponsorship, difficult to attain that many new sponsors in one year.

Other variable amounts include what happens with the previously outsourced promotional work from Elite Sports Group (will it cost us money to bring it back in house? / Will we make loads of cash back in return?)

What will the JDF contribute to the club in both years?

Will the old/new board shift and consolidate losses into a financial year for expedient political motives? (Note Carlton's final loss under Elliott, and the turnaround under Collins - amazing what you can do when you write off loss making portions of your company)

Lastly, how will Wallace perform in his "selling" portion of his job, as well as how does the team perform in 2005. Rebuilding will involve pain & on field losses, but will it be losses which show heart and glimpses of light, or will it be heartless, soul-less losses a-la Frawley?

Way too many variables to make a call, but with a $2.4M loss this year, a lot of positive changes will be required to turn it around in one year. Therefore, a loss for mine.

Know the bloke - SHOW ME THE MONEY - who put together our strategic plan for the next couple of years. Not looking to record profit next year, looking to reduce loss to a more reasonable level, with the view of then turning a profit. All areas of the club - football dept, administration, management, marketing - taken big hits in the budget. AFL not going to assist until we get our books in order. Shocked some board members who thought we could do what we liked, because of AFL's desire to keep a 16 team competition. No No No
