Legalised and regulated drugs work well, look at the opiate crisis in the US as an example as how well it works.
Only 15% of opioid overdoses in the US are caused by opioids prescribed to the individual. The vast majority of ODs are from illegally bought heroin or fentanyl.

The people originally got hooked on prescription drugs.
Maybe. We need to be careful with hard drugs then that have strong addiction potential. Would you disagree with "soft drugs" like marijuana and psychedelics being legalised here?

The idea that these drugs are 'soft' would be hilarious, were it not so sad.
I'm libertarian leaning, so I prefer to trust consenting adults with their own freedoms.

These drugs are "soft" in that they have near zero potential for addiction or overdose. They still have possible ramifications in terms of mental illness, but they are also being studied for the potential to prevent or cure many illnesses.

I assume that you are campaigning to have alcohol and tobacco banned if you are against deadly or harmful drugs?

People are not entities only unto themselves.

Practically speaking, alcohol prohibition is totally unenforceable and not seriously attempted, and alcohol is only known to have adverse affects in large quantities on a regular basis - which should, of course, be campaigned and warned against as much as possible. Cannabis and psychadelics are attested to having serious long-term impacts on the mental health of some after only one use.

The process of banning smoking has been long, slow and arduous. If we legalise cannabis, and then in fifty years we finally confirm what can be plainly seen re:mental health, it will likewise be a long, slow, ardous process to recriminalise it.

If you have long term mental health issue after 1 smoke of cannabis, then you already had them. I call bullshit on that. Psychadelic drugs generally don’t leave you wanting more, however if you abused them by doing all the time I’m sure that is bad for people. However the Beatles for example apparently had huge amounts of lsd and became one of, if not the, greatest bands of all time and remained sane. Psychedelic drugs have played a role in shamanism and traditional religious practices around the world throughout history.

I’m notionally in favour of legalisation but I don’t think it’s necessarily beneficial for drugs to be legalised, just that it is probably less worse.

Why I don't read the Guardian.

"Earlier this week, Canada’s undeniably gorgeous, halo-bound Liberal prime minister, Justin Trudeau – proud feminist, defender of minority rights, advocate for transparency, inclusivity and decency, "

Trudeau seems to be corrupt.

To recap, Wilson-Raybould was demoted to the position of veterans affairs minister in a cabinet shuffle earlier this year. Shortly thereafter, reports emerged that she and her staff had been subjected to a “sustained” campaign by the prime minister’s office over the handling of corruption charges against SNC-Lavalin, a Montreal-based engineering giant accused of bribing Libyan officials. It happens to be a large employer in Quebec, Trudeau’s home state – the prime minister’s office made sure to remind her of that, the job losses such charges might cause and the fact that it was an election year. There was a string of increasingly irate calls, texts and emails. Still, Wilson-Raybould held her ground. The prime minister lost the battle. Then she was demoted.

When the story broke, Trudeau denied any connection between the standoff and Raybould-Wilson’s political punishment. He denied having done anything inappropriate or wrong. The press and public howled. His principal secretary, Gerald Butts, who has been his bestie since their halcyon days in the 90s at McGill University, tried to take one for the team by resigning last week. But it was already too late. Now, Canada’s Tory opposition and many respected commentators are calling for Trudeau’s resignation. It’s a political bloodbath, Canadian style.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-03...s-with-another-ministers-resignation/10871434

A leading Cabinet minister in Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Government has resigned, becoming the second female minister to step down over a scandal that has shaken the Government in an election year.

Consider this a lesson, woke men. Never trust women, they are vipers! Had your cabinet been 100% cishet white men, you would be fine, Justin.

Shame the relatively good ones are the ones who resign... what does it say about the person who takes this person's place?

Justin Trudeau ‘there is no core identity, no mainstream in Canada’

No wonder he appeals so much to the mung bean eating crowd.

Now you've done it, nothing sets off poor old Meds likes the French.

Unless it's the Irish.

It's an odd remark to criticise given medusala is utterly desperate for the northern half of his country to quit and do their own thing.
