I actually learnt a lot through this whole episode myself .

It's funny in any issue that has reached the press where I've known the person involved and what the facts are ,the press have generally printed the opposite of the truth. And once it's out there it's virtually impossible to reverse the narrative. People in the public eye who are perceived as bad guys are more often than not good guys in real life and vice versa. Why this is I've never really been able to work out.

I don't remember what it is called but there is this weird effect where we know that everytime the news et al report on something we know about they get it wrong and often opposite yet we assume they are telling the truth on matters we don't know about.

(Braveheart annoys the hell out of me over its plethora of inaccuracies as I am familiar with the period whereas The Patriot is just a movie to me even though equally (I am told) full of ... disputable representations)

Of course a narrative that supports your preferred bias is far more palatable (and unlikely to be internally challenged) than one that challenges or opposes it!
