suck it long and hard, blue boyos.

I just read that whole Carlscum thread & it's closed.

How percious are those tools? A couple of positive threads from Pies supporters & they shut it down. Which were not aggresive or even full of foul language.

A couple were even found to be correct in hindsight.

Carlton, a dodgy prawn oneday, technicolor yawn the next!
they are pathetic scum, captain peanut's post was worth a red card. Can we get someone to open that tread up? they will be closing a lot of their bullshit calls so we cant remind them of their stupidity

Its great to read that, but at least they are talking some sense unlike the crap they write on Bigfooty and most of the ppl i know who are blues supporters. They have a constructive conversation going on there which is not what i associate with Carlton supporters.
Most still don't understand that they have cr@p recruitment and player development.

I didn't really feel anything when Rowdy took off to the scum just as I wasn't a huge fan in his playing days. Yeah Captain Courageous and all of that but the scum haven't scored a major coup have they? IMO he would never have been foremost in the minds of Collingwood to take over from MM, even before Buckley. An honest, hard nosed footballer who probably isn't a great tactician. Good on him for having a crack elsewhere but I won't shaking my fist at Carltank for poaching this one.
The scum on their boards should be eating a huge amount of sh!t at the moment. I hope Judd and Swann are eating most of it....bits of corn and all!!!

^^woah....
rowdy gave collingwood everything for 26 years.
one of our absolute best. bench in the team of century, captain, superstar.
you might be right about his tactical nous but careful, even rowdy would be dirty about having to leave to further his coaching development. we're sorted for the next little bit with or without him. but i'd rather it was with him. i love him.

oh, and i hate carlton. a lot.

You're selling Rowdy way too short, there wasnt a harder (at the ball) player than him around.

GUN of the highest order. ;)

This basically sums ups carltons poor recruitment record.. Found it on another carlton board. AHAHAHAAHA

"over the last six drafts wayne hughes has had 25 selections. if you leave out last years and i think you should leave out the 3 number one's as the media had them pegged before carlton new they had first pick. that leaves 19 picks. of them only 3 have played 20 games and only one of these ( j.Russell) has played over 40 games. seven are no longer on our list. that is nearly 40% of his picks dont make the grade!!!! I just wonder if hughes has given Judd, Murphy, Gibbs and Kreuzer enough support to win a flagg in the next five years? obviously he must go!!"

I value everyone's opinion but mine is that he was no superstar. I know he was one of the hardest ever but just as I may sell him short, I won't overrate him either. Unfortunate for him that he was a Mr Fix it in an average side for the majority of his career. I admire the man but was never one to call him an out and out gun. Bench in Team of the Century is a great achievement but I must also compare him to the stars that were around from other clubs.
Dirty or not, he won't be turning things around at Carltank.

got a copy of road to victory?
anyway it's not the point of the thread. we both hate carlton.

FFS this guy is the president:

This is akin to in 15 years time this guy being the president:

I'm sure there are Collingwood supporters who are paid up Carlton members voting this guy in just for the lulz.

He is the only remaining link between the Elliot era of cheating and the current administration. Yet when they had a cleanout why did he survive?

I agree with the appraisal of him as a player but I get the feeling he was always the bridesmaid at Collingwood and perhaps that means he is not rated that highly as a coach.

He has been there with Malthouse since near the beginning yet never has been 2nd in charge. I suspect he only took the VFL coaching gig to ready him to be an AFL coach because it is considered a step down from an AFL assistant coach.

After so many years as an assistant coach he is still never mentioned as one of the top coaches in waiting and really to progress he had to move. He happened to go to Carlton. As ruthless as it sounds it's not a massive loss an it probably was inevitable if Brown had the ambition to get a top job.

I have a hell of a lot of confidence in Malthouse and co's ability to recruit the right coaching staff and Malthouse's ability to develop them. This is why he would be an awesome coaching director if we are able to keep him on. I'm not sure if anyone would have had the ability to spot someone like Mark Neeld or even a Scott Watters (as long time WAFL/SANFL coaches are often overlooked).

You sell him way short even if you just consider his stats

255 games, 195 goals
3x Copeland
1x 2nd B&F
2x 3rd B&F
2x EJ Whitten medal, BOG for Victoria (in a time where that meant a lot)
2x All Australian
2x AFLPA Most Courageous player (Robert Rose medal)
Collingwood captain 5 seasons
Victorian captain 1997
Hall of Fame member
Collingwood team of the century
1990 Premiership players (a star of that team)

This is hardly the description of a "honest hard nosed footballer"

When you look at how he played, the courage, the outstanding skill and the way he bled for the club. Brown more than anyone I have seen at Collingwood sacrificed his personal game for the good of the team . He was that good and brave he was asked to take on key position roles he wasnt fully suited to. Still I can remember his taking on a rampaging Gary Ablett Senior and pantsing him

God knows what we would be writing about if he had been allowed to remain a wingman all his career. He starred always in State games when the best played the best. Good ordinary players would only dream of doing that.

Since his career started only Daicos and Buckley would surpass him as Collingwood players.

Gavin Brown was a champion and we have only had a handful of champions at Collingwood in the last 30 years

Shaw, Daicos, Brown, Buckley and Swan on the way in my estimations

From an outsiders perspective, anyone at Collingwood who doesn't rate Gavin Brown must never have seen the man play. Absolute champion and one of the few blokes I would rate alongside Glenn Archer is sheer hardness at the contest.

Totally agree watched the incident at 1/4 time in the 1990 grand final, was deliberate, premeditated and aimed at taking our one effective forward out of the game - (have always hated sheedy as player and coach, played the man far too much) - but there was no keeping Rowdy quiet that day. It was no empty bravado coming back on that day, inspirational team leader. Anybody who derides Rowdy just doesn't understand passion and commitment to the contest, their team mates and the club.

The bolded bit very relevant.

Good post, but you left one very important star out, THE LATE, GREAT, DARREN MILLANE!. On a recent thread it was pointed out just how little actual difference losing various champs has had on various teams, but when we lost Darren Millane it damaged our side and it's structures for several years. The premature loss of Rowdy would have been just as devestating IMHO.
