Will be investigated by the AFL in regards to "tampering with the draft" once a deal with Judd is finalized. Apparently nothing can be done until the trade is finalized with draft picks.
Source - I have a cousin who works for the AFL & 1 who plays for a Perth based side.

Hello?

That is just about the dumbest thing I've read so far, and I've read some pretty dumb things.
I gather you missed reading the following then:
Carlton and Judd's manager Paul Connors determined that Judd could be priced beyond Richmond's reach, with Connors contacting Richmond football director Greg Miller to let him know that an unprecedented price would be placed on Judd's head in the event that he was forced into the pre-season draft.

Dont know if it is true but comments that a 2 million price tag will be put on Judd's head to avoid going to Richmond is draft tampering so it may have legs. AFL were equally concerned about the Gaspar pick when he placed a figure on his head to avoid Melbourne (from memory). They investigated but no collusion with tiges was proved. Connor's comments however reek of collusion.

All the earlier veale deal talks about colluding with Richmond wouldn't go down well either.

Maybe Connors has heard as well and that's why Judd is meeting with the tiges - backsliding perhaps?

I think its rubbbish.

I could understand investigations over salary cap payments but draft tampering?

This is no different to every other year where player X is negotiating a trade from Club Y to Club Z.

Let's make this hypothetical. Let's say player agent A desperate to get his/her player to club Z colludes with club Z to ascertain what they can afford to pay for the purposes of the PSD - say $2,000,000 and A then tells Club Y that he will put a price on the head of A of $2,000,000 in an effort to scare off Club Y.

Draft tampering - or not.

In other groundbreaking news the skys also blue. Of course its draft tampering.

Smells to me like Visy and Amcor :)

Hey Gandaal - we just got one that's even more stupid.

Clearly draft tampering.

It would so hard to get an adequate case against them.

Surely Judd can in TRADE week say that "I don't want to play for this club" and tell them. It is an important part of trading.

I don't see how it is draft tampering based on this alone. In trade week, Judd has the right to say he will be traded to.

As for draft tampering, I would argue that its not draft tampering as Richmond are effectively trying to construct a trade for Judd using the draft.

He has a right to put any amount on his head to deter clubs. Players do it every year. They put a high price on their head to deter clubs with tighter salary cap amounts.

Its only a subtle difference but that scenario is fine until the last bit - its the bit where Agent says they are doing it to scare off club Y. The answer should have been (and too late now as Connors has shot his mouth off) just put the price on your head and don't say anything else.

Brett Chalmers did exactly the same thing when Collingwood picked him up.
As I said, there is a precedent.

As did Gaspar, but no collusion with the successful club was proved in either caes (allthough it may have existed)

If Connors has been reported correctly he has basically admitted collusion by the player (or manager) and club to interfere with the draft process. Case closed!

Rather than use a brown paper bag, Carlton are using a navy blue version with the club logo on one side and visy industries on the other.

This should make it all look above board this year!
