Carlton Return to Prime Time TV

So now that Carlton have thoroughly embarrassed Collingwood you're going to live vicariously through the possibility of St Kilda beating us? It's finally happened, I now have discovered the capacity to feel sorry for Pies fans.

I'll make sure not to mention how you were top 4 locks during the preseason

Carlton weren't even aiming for finals this year and we've outperformed two top four aspirants in Collingwood and Richmond :$

Ha, Pies are pretty ordinary. We are where I said we'd be 3 years ago on our board unfortunately. I'm not living vicariously. I don't if St Kilda will beat Carlton his week and nor do I care. I wasn't being literal to the moment but Carlton have had the honeymoon period and reality will bite soon enough. They are a bog ordinary club with a bog ordinary list and run by a bog ordinary board. Bolton seems like a good coach but it going to take much more than that take Carlton anywhere with their list and age profile. They've got 2 very good young players, a few untried kids and a bunch of hacks on and off the field.

I'm sure this would turn out real well...not..lol

AFL have learnt their lesson re Carlton on prime time Friday night!

Essendon has 1 Friday night game in 2016, given they are top 4 in both attendance's and TV ratings I would suggest this one prime time game is not too extreme.

You have two Friday night games (Port in Round 3 and this Friday vs Hawthorn) and also a Thursday night game against West Coast in a few weeks.

That's the exact same as what last year's Grand Finalists West Coast get.

I was o/s around that time so wasn't aware. I think you will find the reason is Essendon rate so highly in both attendance's and TV ratings, and I'm referring to this seasons stats.

I understand that, but it's a shame when arguably the biggest non Victorian team who went close to winning a flag get the same prime time exposure as a 14th placed Victorian team. And that's not even going into how many FTA Saturday night games the two get.

Fox usually have "interstate" matches here in Vic, as they help to sell subscriptions. Its not the ratings that pay TV care about, its the exclusivity. Fox would kick up a stink if they lost these exclusive matches, ie the ones least attend-able.

You lot get the same Free to air games as the rest of the country unless one of the local teams is playing at the same time. This is where the issue comes from, Seven naturally choose to broadcast the matches which will, in their eyes, be most attractive to the largest TV market, which in AFL circles is obviously Melbourne. So it's understandable why small Victorian teams and non-victorians get little or no prime time matches nationwide when underperforming Big 4 clubs still get a healthy amount.

You're right in saying that Foxtel care more about the subscriptions than individual ratings, and it really is the only option if you're a hardcore footy fan and want to watch all games live. But they have a lot of games outside Victoria or involving small Victorian teams because Seven think they're undesirable to the Melbourne TV audience, for the most part.

It's win-win for the networks, if my side is playing Freo or West Coast at Subiaco short of getting on a plane I need fox to see it. It makes Fox a necessity. If I want to see a lot of footy, I can simply go to MCG or Etihad and get my fix whenever I want.

Aren't Carlton still in debit after last year's debacle?

Maybe 2018 if they continue to play well.
I rather have debt than have Buckley as I couch. Collingwood is all about glits and glamour if you look under the surface or open the door at the Holden centre you will find nothing of any substance. You find it lonely down the bottom as we did but at least we are now leaving the station as our CEO said with what looks to be a great driver Bolten at the controls. Who is Collingwood's coach again FIGJAM

We will be resuming our normal prime time share next year. North Melbourne and others should prepare for an increase in 1.10pm and 1.40pm games.
Bombers are a long long way off and you know what it is all due to the Great James Hird. I used to despise Hird now I like him after all the joy he has brought to me for crushing Essendon single handedly. Next cab off the rack is the return of the Brownlow to its rightful owner Sam Mitchell for one.

Is that 2107 membership slogan?
Its better than "what ever it takes" or somethign to that effect I think the bill for that Essendon slogan is around $7 million plus draft picks plus the loss of a few players and the shame of being found out as drug cheats yeah i take that slogan in front of your 2012 slogan anytime

Prime time games should just be shared around evenly.

Not out of fairness or anything, but every year we end up with shit games in prime time and great games at 1pm on Sunday at Etihad Stadium.
Its all about exposure for sponsors, ratings rule !!! Nothing to do with the quality of the game unfortunately

2 issues there.

1. WCE doesn't really want to play then. Prime time (for most of Aus) sucks for Perth..If the game is played there the locals hate the 'early' start, and if it's away, the game doesn't play prime time in Perth anyway.

2. Vic sides 'need' the best timeslots because that's when they get on FTA TV. Non Vic clubs get on FTA into their local markets for every game. If Vic clubs don't get the 'good' slots though, they're on Foxtel.

So Friday night games in the rest of the country start at 5:50pm for us and Friday 'night' games in Perth start at 6:10, there's only 20 minutes between them. They're either both prime time or neither are.

Neither are...for the Perth market. For the bulk of the country they are.
