Great idea, really interested to follow this. Keep it goingHaving drafted Culley/Ginbey/Chesser/Hough/Hewett, there is an expectation that we will see a shift in the midfield dynamic over the course of the season and in the coming years.
I figured we should track it throughout the season to see what, if anything, is changing with the opportunities afforded to the youth.
Round 1 thoughts:
- Shuey only at 10 CBAs, played predominantly off the half back flank even in the final quarter. Still played a great game, but this usage is a good sign in my mind.
- Ginbey 16/O'Neill 16
- Gaff zero
- JJ could use a few more. I'm not saying 10 a game, but he makes things happen.
- Having seven 'mids' rotate through is promising. Last year we had multiple games with only four or five guys getting a run through the middle.
Seven different guys in the midfield mix is a must if we're going to blood the kids, and really is a must for competitive teams to win football games anyway. For comparison, in Round 1 Melbourne had seven, Collingwood seven, Sydney seven, Geelong six.
Also the same for the forward pockets please. How difficult would it be to document who lines up on the wings each CB?
I feel like there's an oppo poster who does this and posts the results on every board each week. Can't see how you'd do it without going through the tape, unless there's some league level stats package that they have access to.How difficult would it be to document who lines up on the wings each CB?

In any event, it won't be me
CBAsNotObsessedJustAFanSorry I just figured you were obsessed and going through the tape. Way to phone it in, guy
Thanks for making the effort to put that togetherHaving drafted Culley/Ginbey/Chesser/Hough/Hewett, there is an expectation that we will see a shift in the midfield dynamic over the course of the season and in the coming years.

- Won the centre clearances (12-10, +2), absolutely decimated in the total clearances (26-41, -15). 14 clearances around the ground compared to North's 31. Bloody hell.
- Hunt and Gaff currently running at an All Australian midfield level. Each have one centre clearance won from zero centre bounces attended, for a whopping infinite% CC:CBA ratio.
Key CBAs:
Opening Bounce Q1: Williams, Kelly, O'Neill, Shuey (Chesser and Gaff)
Opening Bounce Q2: Williams, O'Neill, Sheed, Shuey (Chesser and Gaff)
Opening Bounce Q3: Williams, Kelly, O'Neill, Shuey (Chesser and Gaff)
Opening Bounce Q4: Williams, Kelly, O'Neill, Sheed (Gaff and Hunt)
Q4 2:50, WCE 82 - 85 NM: Williams, Ginbey, Kelly, Sheed (Gaff and Hunt)
A picture tells a thousand words -- Ginbey 16/O'Neill 16
No one has ever said Gaff played at every centre bounce, that’s just you talking rubbish.Guess that puts to bed the people sooking about Gaff being at every CBD...
I wouldn't say he was no good at it, but I don't think it is an optimal use of his talent. However, team structure is complex, and at times there may be more value having an 80% Gaff in the middle than a 100% Gaff on the wing.No one has ever said Gaff played at every centre bounce, that’s just you talking rubbish.
People including me have strongly made the point that he shouldn’t be attending centre bounces, full stop.
He was a champion wingman, who was forced into a role he was no good at.
I’m very happy to see him back on he wing, so stop your sooking.

Didn’t seem to be at a cursory glance, seemed to just be a midfield/HFF rotation. Was O'Neill given a tagging role?
I didn't see any, you're not thinking of my joke calling Gaff attending centre bounces Simmo's trump card are you? There were people whinging in the gameday thread about Gaff being in centre bounces...
