Andrew McLeod-drafted to Freo in '94, didn't play a game then traded to the Crows for some Cris Groom fellow...Freo got screwed

Trent Croad-Drafted by Hawthorn, traded to Freo for the draft pick that got Hodge and Mitchell, then traded back to the Hawks for Pick 10 (Ryley Dunn)...Freo screwed once again

I would say Greg Williams but he won praise at all Geelong, Sydney and Carlton.

Mal Michael - Collingwood > Brisbane > Essendon

Dale Kickett - Fitzroy > West Coast > St Kilda > Essendon > Fremantle

Justin Madden - Essendon > Carlton

Scott Cummings - champion at several clubs but a poor stint at Collingwood in 2002

Justin Murphy - Richmond > Carlton > Geelong > Carlton > Essendon

Richard Osborne - Fitzroy > Sydney > Footscray > Collingwood

Martin Pike - started at Melbourne but became champion at North Melbourne and Brisbane

Paul Roos - Fitzroy > Sydney

Bit hard to play a game for a club that wasnt in the AFL at the time. Neesham wanted him, the rest didnt, sad story for freo as hes arguably the best half back flanker in the comp

Brenton Sanderson. Inaugural Crows list (6 games, 4 goals), then off to Collingwood for just the one season (4 games, 1 goal), then a very good career at Geelong (199 games, 29 goals, 2001 B&F, vice-captain).

Darren Jarman, Paul Barnard and Brad Scott were all Hawks before moving on to the clubs where they forged their names.

Darren Jarman was a Premiership player, 2-time All-Australian (1992, 1995), Best and Fairest (1995), multi-time State of Origin representative, and runner-up in the Brownlow Medal (1995) all while playing for Hawthorn. Sure, he's best remembered for the last quarter of the 1997 Grand Final with the Crows, but he was hardly a nobody in his 5 seasons for the Hawks.

Laurie Sandilands (Footscray / Collingwood)
Ian Low (Footscray / Collingwood)
Ron Andrews (Essendon / Collingwood)
Warwick Irwin (Fitzroy / Collingwood)
Geoff Raines (Richmond / Collingwood)
David Cloke (Richmond / Collingwood)
Paul Hawke (Sydney / Collingwood)
Greg Smith (Sydney / Collingwood)
Ray Byrne (Carlton / Collingwood)
John Williams (Essendon / Collingwood)

Spot the trend ? We tried everything in the '70s and '80s and still came up short ......

Derek Kickett (Essendon/Sydney)
Joel Smith (St Kilda/Hawthorn)

Des Headland is an interesting one, a short stint at one club where he made a name and won a flag, then a longer stint at another club where he basically did nothing and won nothing.

tom harley (port adelaide / geelong)
grant thomas (st kilda/ north/ fitzroy)
warwick capper (sydney / brisbane / sydney)
mick malthouse (st kilda/ richmond)
jade rawlings (hawthorn/ bulldogs/ north)
rodney eade (hawthorn/ brisbane)

Some of the "champions" listed in this thread are no better than average players so I'll follow the same path.

From Melbourne
Greg Wells to Carlton. Got a flag, good luck to him.
Danny Hughes to Adelaide.
Norm Smith to Fitzroy
Steven Stretch to Fitzroy
Garry Baker to Sydney

To Melbourne
Peter Vardy from Adelaide (oh if he had stayed fit in '04...)
Phil Carman from Collingwood
Craig Turley from West Coast
Jamie Shanahan from St. Kilda

And in non-MFC related moves out of the VFL how about Ron Barassi and Peter McKenna to Port Melbourne?

Mark Williams (current Port Adelaide coach) - Went from being Captain of Collingwood in 1986, to Vice Captain of the Brisbane Bears in their inaugural season in 1987. He actually spent 4 seasons with Brisbane, but he's probably most well known for being a former Collingwood Captain and coaching the Power to their first Premiership.
