Sloane, Thilthorpe, Milera would be locks

McHenry for the Sub

Soligo in prime position but unlucky to miss with Hateley, Nankervis and Himmelberg as cover for late outs up to Saturday
Womder it we would consider managing Sloane as the sub or travelling emergency with Nankervis the sub?

I’ll be there too - and yup, there for the game against the Roos too. We were sitting right next to the coaches box and I couldn’t understand why Pyke didn’t go ballistic.
That game was the very game I first began to realised that Don Pyke was a shit football coach.

how he sat there that entire quarter and didn't make one single fxxkn change or do anything to stop that onslaught was just dumbfounding… and remember 6/6/6 wasnt a thing back then.

But Pyke’s plan B was always to hope like hell plan A eventually started working.. and when it didnt, he had no plan c.

You would hope we are starting to turn the corner on player management

If Macadam was in I would even suggest Walker misses but - apart from Himmelberg there doesnt seem to be a direct replacement

My thinking of using Sloane as the non-playing emergency is that we can always rest him the following week if we have a late out... so that way no one else misses out playing this week.

Would think Tex will be rested soon. Have the choice of bringing in Berg or going smaller with either McAdam or Gollant.

I'd like to see Gollant back. Was showing good signs.

Nicks said that Chelsea Randall cleaned up Ned McHenry in training today

Joked that Ned may miss

Pardon my poor expression.

1) Berry was in everyone’s best 22 at the start of the season.

2) He had a fantastic 2022 and was in our best 10 players by the end of the year.

3) Berry is a key part of our future, imho.

He seems to be effected by a slight change in his role and the increased number of players rotating through the midfield.

Many posters (myself included) wanted Thilthorpe to play in Round One. Back in talent! I just believe that we need to be patient with our talented Kids. Some posters were even calling for Soligo to be dropped this week.
Very fair reply, thank you.

I think Berry's dropped because
--- distinctively less effective, maybe for the reasons you said.
--- his tackles dropped from an average of 8/game to 2. That's about effort.

Agree re Thilthorpe. Selecting EH ahead of him was madness from our external pov.
Maybe he was not quite fit enough, or needed a rocket?

Last week there were four players missing from my pre-season best 22. Worrell, Berry, Schoenberg and McAdam were replaced by Michalanney, Sholl, Jones and Murphy. Since Worrell is probably 3-4 weeks away from playing in the AFL, the only tough call is Berry.

In the preseason Berry looked like he would be going to the next level and his flat start to the season is baffling. Providing he is fit, we must keep faith with him, same story with Soligo, Rachele, Thilthorpe, Pedlar and Michaelanney. I expect no changes this week but I would be happy if we found a spot for Berry. This would be a very tough call but

Out - Sholl, In -Berry (and Soligo plays mostly on the wing).
It's an interesting thought as to our best 22. I hope we get smart & use the Geelong model to regularly rotate around 30 players though our AFL side with smart management.

This also allows for a horses for courses policy with how many talls v mid sized defenders & forwards we play.

As for best 22, it's getting harder. Mine is probably something like...

B: Michalanney, Murray, Doedee
HB: Smith, Worrell, Hinge
C: Soligo, Dawson, Jones
HF: Pedlar, Walker, Keays
F: Rankine, Fogarty, McAdam
R: O'Brien, Rachele, Laird
I: Milera, Berry, Sloane, Thilthorpe
Sub: Murphy

Changes from last week side...
Worrell - Butts
Berry - Sholl
McAdam - McHenry

First move I would make would be to trott Keays down to wherever Sicily is standing and tell Ben to imagine he is Saad..Take out their prime mover from defence and create a goal threat the other way
Very different players. Sicily will take one of our Key Position Forwards. Saad is more your rebounding half back.

I had a dream a couple of years ago that Chelsea and Dmac were doing 1 on 1 competitive training

And Chelsea kept winning so Nicksy had to team her up against Sloane instead

I don’t think I’m well , likely need help

Prior to Round One I said that there were only about a dozen players who were definitely in our best 22 and a couple of dozen players competing for the remaining spots.

Despite very few injuries we have already used 30 players in the AFL. I would not be surprised to see Worrell, Nankervis, Keane, McPherson, Hamill, Crouch, Hately, Strachan, Taylor and Cooke get a game(s) in the AFL this year*.

Selection will be a fine balancing act of maintaining the strength of the team whilst providing opportunities to the 18 players outside our best 22.

* Newchurch, Borlase, Dowling and Bond are also a chance if injuries strike.

It's exactly you want to see happening from the club during this season so we don't burn players out. From that list you outlined.

Worrell - can come in and give Michalanney a rest or cover for Doedee

Nankervis ,- playing wing and back, could cover Smith, Milera or Hinge in the back or Scholl, Sloane or Jones on wing

Keane - Murray or Butts

McPherson/Hamill - Milera, Hinge, Smith coverage

Crouch/Brown/Hately - give Laird or Sloane a rest

Taylor - Soligo, Pedlar, McHenry

Cook - Smith it Milera rest

Sicily will be on one of your talls, Fogarty or Tex most likely, unless you try double team a defender, or try create blocks to let one of the key forwards lead.
